MANKATO, Minnesota – The Northwest Missouri State softball team fought for a 4-3 win over Minnesota State Friday afternoon.
Sydne Brashear got things going for the Bearcats in the first inning with a single to center that allowed
Olivia Daugherty to score.
Minnesota State answered in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, 1-1.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Karli Allen grounded out to second base but brought in
Kaitlyn Weis to score and advance the Bearcat lead to 2-1.
In the top of the sixth inning,
Madison Friest hit a double to left center allowing
Erin Keeney to score. Next at bat,
Abby Nolte hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Allen to score and push the Bearcat lead to 4-1.
Minnesota State fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring two more runs, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Bearcats.
The Bearcats secured the 4-3 win over Minnesota State and start the season 2-0.
Northwest will continue to play in the Minnesota State D-II Softball Classic Saturday with games against Lewis and Minnesota State. The Bearcats face Lewis at 10 a.m. and Minnesota State at 3 p.m.
