Bearcats fall to Ichabods 59-43

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team fell to the Washburn Ichabods 59-43. Northwest really struggled to find the basket in this game shooting only 26% from the field in the game. The Bearcats were outrebounded 34-19. The Bearcats took care of the ball well only committing nine turnovers to Washburn's 17.

The first five minutes of basketball of this game resulted in just 8 points total with the Ichabods leading 5-3. The Bearcats played great defense and part of their offensive struggle may have been in part to the fact, that leading scorer Kendey Eaton did not play in this game. The Bearcats trailed 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Ichabods started the second quarter on a 6-0 run. After that 6-0 run the Bearcats won the quarter 11-9. Northwest was able to stay in the game by hitting 7-8 free throws and forcing eight Washburn turnovers in the first half.

The third quarter was a low scoring quarter as well, after the third quarter the Ichabods led 39-31. Washburn's Hayley Thompson hit a half court shot to end the third quarter.

The Ichabods asserted their dominance in the fourth quarter, winning the final quarter 20-12.

Mallory McConkey was the only Bearcat in double figures with 16 points. Jayna Green led Northwest with six rebounds.

Hunter Bentley led the Ichabods with 16 points, and Hayley Thompson and Shelbe Piggie added 11.  Bentley added nine rebounds and two steals.

Northwest will be back in action against Missouri Western in Bearcat Arena on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
