Volleyball knocks of No. 23 Central Washington, 3-0

TOPEKA, Kansas – The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 triumph over No. 23-ranked Central Washington University in the opening match of the Washburn Invitational on Friday.
 
Northwest won by set scores of 25-23, 27-25, 25-17.
 
Northwest took a 1-0 lead with a 25-23 victory in the opening set. Northwest's Maddy Ahrens closed out the set victory with a service ace.
 
Northwest trailed 17-13 in the second set, but scored four points in a row tie it at 17-17. CWU led 24-22 before Northwest was able to even it up again at 24-24. The Bearcats then closed out the second set on a kill from Hallie Sidney, 27-25.
 
The Bearcats secured the sweep with a 25-17 triumph in the third set. Northwest limited CWU to .088 hitting in the third.
 
Sidney recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Morgan Lewis added nine kills (.438). Bethany Elkins was efficient with 10 kills (.818) on only 11 swings. Ahrens chipped in with 34 assists.
