MARYVILLE, Missouri - The Augustana Vikings used three first-half goals to hold off the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat women's soccer team on Sunday at the Bearcat Soccer Pitch, 3-2.
Augustana started the match strong offensively scoring three goals in the first half and taking possession for 60% of time.
Kelly Kleekamp put the Vikings on the board in the 18th minute. Sylvia Fehr and Josie Arduser each found the net shortly after to put the Vikings up 3-0 at the break.
Northwest found momentum in the second half after
Marissa Schmitt took a shot which led to an own goal to put the Bearcats on the board and cut the lead to 3-1.
In the 75th minute,
Alex Mausbach continued the momentum and found the back of the net to cut the lead to 3-2.
Macy Heckadon assisted on the goal.
Northwest threatened on two more chances in the final 10 minutes but could not find the equalizing goal. Augustana would hold on for the 3-2 road win.
The Bearcats move to 1-2-1 on the year and will return to the Bearcat Pitch next Friday to take on Central Missouri at 3 p.m.
