SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team took down its third ranked foe of the season with a 3-1 win over No. 7-ranked Northern State at the Drury Tournament.
Northwest won by set scores of 19-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-23.
Northern State put Northwest in the hole early by taking the first set, 25-19. But the Bearcats wasted little time in evening it up at a set apiece with a dominant 25-11 triumph in the second set. Northwest hit .444 in the second set after opening up with .045 in the first. Northwest had 13 kills to go against only one attack error in the second.
The Bearcats then won a pair of tightly contested sets, 25-22 and 25-23, to take the match. Northwest got crucial services aces in the set from freshman
Jaden Ferguson and junior
Maddy Ahrens.
Junior
Hallie Sidney had a pedestrian opening two sets with five kills in 24 attacks. However, Sidney turned it up a notch in the third and fourth sets. Sidney secured 14 kills on 30 swings and had only one attack error in the third and fourth sets. Sidney led the with with 19 kills and 10 digs.
True freshman
Sydney McDermott saw her first action of the season and recorded five blocks against the Wolves.
