Baseball wraps up home season with Lindenwood

Coming off a series split with Rockhurst, the Northwest Missouri State baseball team is preparing for a three-day, three-game set against MIAA foe Lindenwood April 26-28.

Promotions are planned for each game in the series. Friday is a Pink Out with a silent auction planned to kick off the 2019-2010 Pink Out games.

Saturday will be Pizza Ranch Day. Pizza Ranch will be giving out free pizza and the first 100 fans will receive a Pizza Ranch T-Shirt.

Sunday will be Family Eye Day at the Bearcat Baseball Field. The Family Eye Clinic will be giving away 125 pairs of free sunglasses. The Family Eye Clinic will also give away a $250 gift card to a random fan that checks in at the baseball game on the Bearcat athletics app.

Sunday will also mark Senior Day as the Bearcats will honor nine seniors suiting up for their final home game of their collegiate careers.

The Bearcats (19-23, 14-13 MIAA) enter the matchup with the Lions controlling the No. 4 slot in the MIAA for team batting average (.285), sitting two spots behind Lindenwood at No. 2 (.291).

Junior first baseman Connor Quick (.383) continues to sit among the MIAA's top-10 best individual batting averages at No. 4. Quick also has a notable place among the MIAA leaders in on-base percentage (.463), slugging percentage (.580) and hits (62). Quick looks to extend his team-high, 26-game on-base streak.

On the mound, junior pitcher Quintin Van Ackeren leads Northwest pitching with 63 innings pitched, allowing 45 runs (35 earned) on 79 hits and has struck-out 49 batters on the year. Junior Joe Funkhouser has thrown a team-high 51 strikeouts.

Senior Trevor Dudar is tied for No. 21 in the nation in saves on the year (7).

Lindenwood enters the contest with Northwest coming off a win against non-conference opponent McKendree (GLVC).

BEARCAT SENIOR BIOS
Dane Appel is from Blair, Nebraska. Appel is a three-time MIAA Academic honor roll honoree. He is a member of the president's honor roll with a 3.68 GPA and is majoring in middle school education.
 
Jarret Cronin is from Maryville, Missouri. Jarret joined the program in 2018 after playing two seasons at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Jarret has appeared in 14 games and has struck out seven batters this season. He has a 3.51 GPA with a major in recreation with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation.
 
Ross Davis came to Northwest in 2015 from Hugoton, Kansas. Davis is a three-time MIAA academic honor roll honoree. He has appeared in six games, including three this season. Davis has begun graduate work in applied health and sports science.
 
Trevor Dudar is from Stillwater, Minnesota and came to Northwest via Simpson College. Dudar is the program's all-time saves leader with 21. He earned first-team all-MIAA honors in 2018. He is a business management major.
 
Mondesi Gutierrez is from San Diego, California and has been a member of the Bearcat baseball team for three years after transferring to Northwest from Orange Coast College. He was an MIAA honorable mention pick in 2018. Mondo has played in 89 games and has made 88 career starts as a Bearcat. He has a 3.03 GPA with a business management major.
 
Alixon Herrera is from Maracay, Venezuela, and transferred to Northwest in 2017 from Cloud County Community College. Poppy has played in 87 career games with 83 starts. He is batting .327 this season with 34 runs batted in. Poppy has begun graduate work in applied health and sports science.
 
Jay Hrdlicka is from West Des Moines, Iowa. Jay redshirted in 2015 and has gone on to play in 161 career games with 154 starts. Hrdlicka had 144 hits, including 30 doubles, and has driven in 76 runs. He holds a 3.51 GPA in biology: biomedical sciences and is a two-time MIAA academic honor roll selection.
 
Derek Hussey is from Chillicothe, Missouri. He joined the Bearcat baseball program in 2018 after playing two seasons at North Central College. Derek has appeared in 86 games with 75 starts with 17 career stolen bases. Derek is batting .319 this season with 52 hits and 35 runs scored. He has knocked in 21 runs. He is a business management major.
 
Logan Rycraft is from Mount Vernon, Missouri. Logan has played three years for the Bearcats after playing his freshman season at Highland Community College. Logan has started all 143 games as a Bearcat. He has registered 114 hits and 13 stolen bases. He 337 assists at shortstop ranks as the fifth-best total in program history. He is a physical education major.
