The three-game baseball series between Northwest Missouri State and Washburn in Maryville will be pushed back to a single game on Sunday and a doubleheader on Monday because of rain.

Northwest and Washburn will meet for a single game on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bearcat Field. The two squads will then wrap up the three-game set with a doubleheader on Monday beginning at 12 p.m.

Northwest (11-15, 7-8 MIAA) comes into the ballgame after dropping its home opener to Missouri Western, 9-3.

Entering the matchup with the Ichabods, the Bearcats come in at No. 5 in the MIAA in team batting average (.266), sitting four spots ahead of Washburn at No. 9 (.251).

Thus far, Northwest has relied on the strong bats of junior first baseman Connor Quick and sophomore infielder Matt Gastner. Gastner owns a team-high .370 batting average and has sole control of the No. 10 spot in the MIAA for batting average. Quick leads all starters for the Bearcats in on-base percentage (0.458), hits on the season (34) and triples recorded (2).

In 44 1/3 innings pitched on the season, junior Quintin Van Ackeren leads Northwest pitchers in strikeouts (40) and victories (3). Other notable strikeout totals include sophomore Max Spitzmiller (30) and junior Joe Funkhouser (32).

Washburn (12-13 overall, 6-9 MIAA) looks to rebound off a series loss to Central Missouri, 2-1.
