The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team will look to open its home season Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Missouri Western State University at Bearcat Field.

Northwest has played 25 games (11-14 overall, 7-8 MIAA) on either the road or neutral fields. 

Missouri Western (11-11, 9-6 MIAA) enters the contest at tied for fourth MIAA standings, sitting three spots ahead of Northwest, who is tied for seventh.

Sophomore infielder Matt Gastner comes into the game owning the eighth-best batting average in the conference (.364). Gastner has five multi-hit games for the Bearcats.

Junior first baseman Connor Quick and senior catcher Alixon Herrera look to add to their team-leading on-base streaks at 10 games apiece.

In 44 1/3 innings pitched on the season, junior Quintin Van Ackeren leads Northwest pitchers in strikeouts (40) and victories (3). Other notable strikeout totals include sophomore Max Spitzmiller (32) and junior Joe Funkhouser (30). Senior closer Trevor Dudar is tied for No. 19 in the nation in saves (5).
