BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team picked up a split Saturday by defeating Midwestern State, 6-3 and, falling to Arkansas-Monticello, 2-0.
Game One -

The Bearcats captured their first win of the season against Midwestern State. Senior
Kiana Baderdeen led the Bearcats at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The Bearcats took an early lead when
Jaedra Moses drew and walk and
Kaitlyn Weis followed with a two-run homer.
The Bearcats stretched the lead in the third with back-to-back singles from Moses and Weis, and a walk to
Erin Keeney that loaded the bases. Baderdeen extended the lead to 4-0 with a single.
Olivia Daugherty knocked in Keeney with an RBI-single that pushed the lead to 5-0.
Midwestern State's Carli Woolsey hit a solo home run to put the Mustangs on the board and cut the Bearcat lead to 5-1.
A Mustang error allowed Moses to reach in the top of the fifth. Moses scored on a bunt to up the advantage to 6-1.
Bailey Wamsley hit a homer to center to give the Mustangs their second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Northwest starter
Rachel Smith pitched all seven innings for the Bearcats and earned the win, giving up nine hits and only allowing three runs. Smith also had seven strikeouts and four walks.
Game Two
Northwest dropped a 2-0 decision to Arkansas-Monticello in its second game of the day.
Northwest is 1-1 on the season.
Up next for the Bearcats is a doubleheader Friday in Bentonville, Arkansas, against Rogers State and Mississippi College.
