RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas - The Northwest Missouri State University softball team dropped both of its games in Arkansas today.
The Bearcats came up short against Upper Iowa, 5-1. Northwest then fell to Minnesota State, Mankato, 8-7.
Game One vs. Upper Iowa
Northwest gained the upper hand early when
Karli Allen laced an RBI double to right field that scored
Olivia Daugherty in the bottom of the second. However, it would be the lone run scored by the Bearcats in the contest.
Upper Iowa scored two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth defeating the Bearcats, 5-1.
Rachel Smith pitched 5.2 innings allowing seven hits and giving up five runs.
Game Two vs. Minnesota State Mankato
Northwest came out strong in the first inning with
Jaedra Moses singling to shortstop and
Kaitlyn Weis hitting a two-run home run to center field to put the Bearcats up, 2-0.
Minnesota State answered with two runs in the first as well.
Erin Keeney homered in the third to set the pace for the Bearcats.
Kiana Baderdeen singled to third base and
Olivia Daugherty reached base on an error by the shortstop advancing Baderdeen to second. Next up,
Karli Allen hit a three-run bomb to put the Bearcats on top, 6-2.
Minnesota State answered in the third with one score cutting the lead to 6-3.
In the sixth inning,
Grace Ruehle singled to left field allowing Daugherty to score putting the Bearcats up 7-3.
Minnesota State answered again in the sixth cutting the Bearcat lead to 7-4.
Minnesota State then rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring four runs and defeating the Bearcats, 8-7.
The team will be back in action Sunday, February 17 in Conway, Arkansas against Parkside and Rogers State.
NOTES: Weis leads the squad with a .429 batting average … Daugherty has a .385 season average …
Jaedra Moses is hitting .357 … Weis and Allen are tied with four RBI.
