MARYVILLE, Missouri – A late goal in the second half pushed the Northeastern State RiverHawks past the Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team Sunday afternoon at the Bearcat Pitch, 2-1.
The RiverHawks got on the board early in the first half with a goal from Mariah Nicolet to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats battled back in the second half when
Alex Mausbach set it up in the middle of the field for
Jessie Brown. Brown found
Izzy Romano to knock it in and tie the game, 1-1. This goal marked Romano's second goal of the season.
The matchup looked like it was headed to overtime, but the Riverhawks took advantage of a corner kick and a goal with just over more than a minute to play. Sarah Rector netted one in off a corner kick by Hannah Heaton to give the RiverHawks the win, 2-1.
The Bearcats fall to 4-7-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play. They will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, Friday to take on Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Wichita, Kansas, next Sunday to face Newman at 2 p.m.
