MARYVILLE, Missouri – The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team took a 3-1 win over the Rogers State Hillcats Friday at the Bearcat Pitch.

Northwest's Izzy Romano started the momentum for the Bearcats three minutes in to the game with a goal to grab an early 1-0 lead. Romano used a corner kick and helping, blustery wind to bend it in for her first goal of the season.

The Bearcats added to the lead when Taylor Wolfe intercepted a Rogers State goal kick and took full advantage of the open field. Wolfe netted her first goal of the season in the 13th minute to give Northwest a 2-0 cushion over the visiting Hillcats.

Northwest continued its goal assault in the first half when Tanith Beal headed in a pass from Izzy Romano in the 16th minute to increase the lead to 3-0. It is Beal's second goal this season to go along with two assists. It was Romano's third assist in 2019.

The Hillcats ruined the shutout attempt from the Bearcats with 1:06 left in the second period. RSU's Sydney Connelly blasted in a goal with the help of the breeze to cut the Northwest lead to 3-1. But the Hillcats would climb no closer and Northwest posted a 3-1 win.

Northwest is in the midst of a three-match unbeaten streak with a victory and two ties. The last time Northwest had a three-match unbeaten streak came in the 2015 season when the Bearcats earned a tie in the first three matchups of that season.

The Bearcats improve to 4-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play. They will host Northeastern State Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at the Bearcat Pitch. Northeastern State sits at 8-3-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference.
