Softball finishes opening weekend with Friday split


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University softball program came away with a tough fought split in Bentonville, Ark., on Friday against No. 12 Harding and Arkansas-Monticello.
- The Bearcats dropped a 1-0 affair in the first game to nationally ranked Harding but rebounded for an 11-2 victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the afternoon session.
- Northwest is now 2-2 on the year.
Game One Key Statistics (Harding 1, Northwest 0)
- Harding scored the game's lone run in the fourth inning.
- Northwest had three hits in the game and did not commit an error. Harding had one run on four hits with two errors.
- Jaedra Moses, Abigail Gilson and Kiana Baderdeen each recorded hits.
- Taylor Blackford threw all six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. She had three strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

- Blackford set the Lady Bison down in order in the first, third and fifth innings.
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 11, Arkansas-Monticello 2)
- Northwest scored six runs in the second and five in the third inning. UAM had single runs in the first and third innings.
- The Bearcats finished with 11 runs on 13 hits with no errors. Arkansas-Monticello had two runs on two hits with three errors.
- Moses was 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored.
- Rebecca Maher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Kaitlyn Weis went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs.
- Baderdeen went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
- Sydney Brashear went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
- Erin Keeney was 1-for-2 with a run scored. She also drew a pair of walks.
- Jessica Rawie was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

- Rachel Smith threw all five innings, allowing two runs on two hits. She walked one and struck out three.

Game Two Key Innings
- Kenney started the second by reaching on an error and went to third on Rawie's double. After a pair of groundouts, Brashear hit an RBI single to drive in two runs. Baderdeen singled to put two runners on for Maher who hit an RBI single to score Brashear to make it 3-1. Moses singled in Baderdeen for the fourth run of the inning and Weis' double to center drove in two more to make it 6-1 Bearcats.

- With one out in the third, Karli Allen reached on an error and went to second on a Brashear single. Baderdeen loaded the bases with a walk. Maher singled in a run with a base hit to left to make it 7-1. After a pitching change, Moses hit a bases-clearing triple to right. Weis followed it up with a single to left to make it 11-1.
Up Next
- Northwest will head back to Bentonville, Ark., next weekend. The Bearcats will face Illinois-Springfield and Henderson State on Friday, Feb. 16.
