Tappmeyer selected to Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Former Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer has been selected to the 2018 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction class. Tappmeyer will be inducted on Sunday, Jan. 28, in Springfield, Mo. Event and ticket information can be found on the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame website. There will be an 11 am reception followed by the ceremony at 4 p.m. at the University Plaza Convention Center.

Tappmeyer coached at Northwest for 21 seasons, compiling a school record 408 victories. He captured the 1998, 2002 and 2007 MIAA regular season title and led the Bearcats to MIAA Tournament titles in 1989, 2002, 2004 and 2008. He took Northwest to 10 NCAA Tournaments and led the Bearcats to the program's first NCAA Elite Eight in 2002 and returned to the national quarterfinals again in 2004. He had 11 straight seasons with 19 or more victories. He was the MIAA coach of the Year and the South Central Region Coach of the Year in 2001.

He was inducted into the Northwest M-Club Hall of Fame in 2014 and was part of the MIAA's Hall of Fame class of 2017.
