Early runs not enough as baseball falls to UCM

- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team fell to Central Missouri, 10-3, on Thursday in the first round of the MIAA Championships in St. Charles, Mo.
- Northwest falls to 24-27 overall while UCM improves to 35-12 on the year.
- Kevin Handzlik was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
- Nick Gotta went 1-for-3 with a run scored. His ninth inning walk tied him for the Northwest single season record with 45 on the year. He was also hit by a pitch.

- Northwest jumped out quick, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Bearcats finished the game with three runs on eight hits with one error.
- The Mules scored five in the first, three in the second and added two in the eighth. UCM finished with 10 runs on 14 hits with no errors.
- Garrett Fort was 1-for-5 with a run scored.
- James Holler went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
- Ozzie Adams went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt in the first.
- Aaron Barratt went 1-for-4 with a double.

Key Northwest Innings
- Gotta led off the first with a single. Fort hit a well placed grounder to second for a single, allowing Gotta to move to second. Adams laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third. Holler drew a one out walk to load the bases for Handzlik. Handzlik took a 2-2 pitch to left field for a two-RBI double to put Northwest up 2-0. Lewis grounded out to second, driving in Holler from third to make it 3-0.

- Northwest will face the loser of the Missouri Southern vs. Missouri Western game which followed the Bearcats' game. That elimination contest will be on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
