Softball collects 26 hits, sweeps Lindenwood


Story Headlines
- The bats came alive for the No. 16-ranked Northwest Missouri State softball team Saturday in St. Charles, Mo., leading to a sweep of Lindenwood.
- Northwest rattled off 11 hits in a 13-1 victory in game one before collecting 15 base knocks to take game two, 12-1. Both contests were halted after five innings via the eight-run rule.
- The Bearcats improved their record to 24-8 overall and 8-4 in MIAA play, while the Lady Lions fell to 8-26 this season and 5-11 against conference opponents.
- Chantel Adams and Jessica Rawie each drove in six runs on the day while Madison Jones added five RBIs.
 
Game One Key Statistics (Northwest 13, Lindenwood 1, five innings)
- Northwest scored its 13 runs on 11 hits and two Lady Lion errors. The Bearcats did not commit a defensive miscue.
- Eight of the nine Bearcat starters scored at least one run.
- Kendle Schieber (13-3) picked up her fifth-straight victory, scattering three hits across four innings in the circle. The senior drove in a pair of runs at the dish, going 2-for-3.
- Rachel Smith threw a scoreless fifth to clinch the result, allowing just one batter to reach base.
- Madison Jones drove in three runs with her fourth home run of the season.
- Catcher Jessica Rawie knocked in four runs, tied for the most in a game this season. The sophomore finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and her first career triple.
- Torri Blythe scored twice, going 2-for-3 with a double.
- Junior Chantel Adams tallied a pair of RBIs with a single in her final at bat, scoring twice.
- Freshman Alexis Kelsey scored both times she reached base, driving in one run and stealing her first base of the season.
- Jaedra Moses finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored.
- Shortstop Rebecca Maher crossed the plate twice, driving in one run.

Game One Key Innings
- Blythe opened the contest by ripping a double to left center. After moving to second on a groundout, the junior came in to score when Maher reached on an error by the pitcher. Maher scored from first on Kelsey's double to right, who later scored when Rawie sent a two-out single to left center.

- Northwest put up a five-spot in the third inning after Kelsey drew a walk and Adams was hit by a pitch. Rawie drove in a run when she reached on an error by the shortstop before Schieber knocked in Adams with a single. Jones cleared the bases in the next at bat with a three-run home run to right center, handing the Bearcats a 8-0 advantage.

- The Bearcats put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring five more runs. Back-to-back infield singles from Blythe and Moses brought up Maher, who reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Adams plated a pair with a single through the right side before Rawie sent home two more with her triple down the right field line. Schieber's single to left center drove in the final run, giving Northwest a commanding 13-0 lead.
 
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 12, Lindenwood 1, five innings)
- All nine starters crossed the plate at least once.
- The Bearcats scored all 12 runs with two outs.
- Sarah Baldwin (5-4) collected the win, pitching five innings and surrendering just three hits and one unearned run.
- Chantel Adams drove in four runs, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
- Rebecca Maher and Alexis Kelsey finished with identical stat lines, going 3-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a walk.
- Sophomore Jessica Rawie turned in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, scoring one and driving in two with a double.
- Designated player Madison Jones finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored.
- Freshman Kiana Baderdeen reached base twice and scored one run.
- Jaedra Moses drove in a pair of runs and scored another, finishing 1-for-4.

Game Two Key Innings
- With two outs in the top of the second, five consecutive batters reached base to give the Bearcats an early 3-0 lead. Blythe walked after Jones and Baderdeen each singled, loading the bases for Moses. The freshman knocked in a pair with a base hit down the left field line. Maher kept the rally going with a single of her own, allowing Blythe to score from second.

- After the Lady Lions scratched together a run in the third, Northwest responded with a six run fourth inning, again all coming with two outs. Kelsey singled to center after a pair of walks to score Moses. Adams sent in two with a single to right field, followed by an RBI double off the bat of Rawie. Jones completed the hit barrage with a double to right center, driving in two more and extending the lead to 9-1.

- The Bearcats put the game out of reach with a trio of runs in the fifth. After two quick outs, Maher singled and Kelsey walked. Both infielders scored when Adams drove a double to center. Rawie then singled through the right side, bringing in Adams and giving Northwest a 12-1 edge.
 
Up Next
- The Bearcats will return home for a stretch of 12 games in 12 days at Bearcat Field. Northwest will open the homestand with a conference doubleheader against Missouri Western Tuesday, March 29. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
