Volleyball drops five set match at Emporia


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team fell to Emporia State, 3-2, on Saturday night in Emporia, Kan.
- The Bearcats fall to 21-4 overall and 9-4 in MIAA play. The Hornets improve to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in conference action.
- Maddy Bruder had 20 kills to lead Northwest. She had 19 digs, an assist and a block. She hit .281 for the match.

- Northwest won the first set, 25-18, but fell in the second 25-21. After a 25-21 win in the third set, Emporia won the fourth and fifth sets by scores of 25-14 and 15-13.
- Jackie Becker had 10 kills with one block.
- Taylor Linenberger had nine kills with five blocks.
- Alexis Williams finished with eight total blocks. She also added six kills and five digs.
- Sarah Dannettell had 48 assists, 12 digs, three kills, three blocks and a service ace.
- Olivia Nowakowski had 19 digs and one assist.
- Megan Stilmock had 10 digs, two assists and two service aces.
- Sofia Schleppenbach had three service aces.

Key Northwest Sequences
- Up 10-8 in the third set, Northwest got back-to-back kills from Linenberger and Becker to put Northwest up 12-8. After an ESU attacking error, Becker and Dannettell came up with a block to make it a four-point Bearcat run. The two teams would trade attacking errors but kills from Becker and Dannettell put Northwest up 17-9. The Bearcats would not trail the remainder of the set.

- Northwest got off to a quick start in the fifth set. Bruder had back-to-back kills and an attacking error by ESU made the score 3-0, prompting a timeout. Dannettell and Williams combined on a block to make it 4-0 and Bruder put away her third kill of the set to cap the quick 5-0 run for the Bearcats.
