Softball uses long ball to split with Truman State

- The Northwest Missouri State softball team split Tuesday's doubleheader with Truman State in Maryville.
- The Bearcats won a back-and-forth affair in game one, coming out on top 11-9 in nine innings.
- Northwest rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to take momentary lead, but eventually fell short in the nightcap, 9-8.
- The Bearcats are now 20-20 on the year, while the Bulldogs move to 27-9 this season.
- Northwest hit six home runs on the day.

- The Bearcats scored their 11 runs on 15 hits, while the Bulldogs collected 13 hits to score nine runs.
- Freshman Abigail Gilson crushed a pair of home runs, including a walk-off two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth. Gilson finished with four RBI.

Game One Key Innings
- Jessica Rawie led off the third with a solo shot to left center, making the score 2-1 Bulldogs.
- After Rebecca Maher singled with two outs in the fifth, Stephanie Mark sent a pitch over the fence to close the gap to 5-3.
- The Bearcats tied the score in the sixth after Baylee Scarbrough led off with a single to center. Two batters later, Abigail Gilson deposited a pitch over the fence in left.
- After the Bulldogs scored one in the top of the seventh, Maher reached on an error to lead off in the bottom of the inning. Two batters later, Scarbrough singled to center to drive home Maher.
- With the international tie break in place, the Bulldogs plated a single run in the top of the eighth. The Bearcats placed Ashley Wilcoxson on second in the bottom of the inning, who moved to third on Torri Blythe's sacrifice bunt. Wilcoxson tapped the plate on a wild pitch during the next at bat.
- After Truman State scored two runs in the ninth, the Bearcats responded with four runs to walk off with the victory. With Maher placed on second, Chantel Adams sent and RBI single to center. With two outs, Scarbrough reached on a single up the middle and came in to score on Kendle Schieber's double to left. During the next at bat, Gilson sent a walk-off home run to left center to seal the victory.
 

Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 8, Truman State 9)
- Kendle Schieber started game two for the Bearcats, recording seven strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched. The junior added two RBI at the dish.
- Stephanie Mark was 4-for-4 with two runs in the contest.
- Freshman Rebecca Maher finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.
- Chantel Adams added a home run and drove in two runs.
- Baylee Scarbrough reached base three times, scoring one run and driving in another.

Game Two Key Innings
- Trailing 5-0, Rebecca Maher led off the fourth with a single through the left side. After moving to second on Stephanie Mark's single, Maher came in to score when Baylee Scarbrough sent a single to left. Both Mark and Scarbrough crossed the plate on Kendle Schieber's single to center. Two batters later, Jessica Rawie drove in the final run of the inning with a single through the hole at short.
- The Bearcats took a 6-5 lead in the fifth after Chantel Adams crushed a two-run home run after Mark reached on a double to right.
- Maher added a two-run shot of her own in the sixth after Rawie led off with a single up the middle.

- The Bearcats will return to the diamond on Friday, April 17th when Central Missouri comes to town for a crucial MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
