Softball takes one of two from Jennies

Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State softball team split Friday's doubleheader with Central Missouri in Maryville.
- After the Jennies held off a late Bearcat rally to take game one, 4-1, Northwest responded with a 2-1 victory in the night cap.
- Kendle Schieber recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts in game two.
- The Bearcats are now 21-21 this season and hold a 13-9 mark in the MIAA, while the Jennies are now 33-13 and lead the league at 15-5.

Game One Key Statistics (Northwest 1, Central Missouri 4)
- Sarah Baldwin threw seven solid innings for the Bearcats, giving up three earned runs on six hits to take the loss. The junior totaled four strikeouts and surrendered five walks.
- Freshman Rebecca Maher reached base twice on a pair of singles and drove in the only Bearcat run.
- Torri Blythe finished 1-for-4 and scored a run.
- Baylee Scarbrough clubbed a double in her second at bat.
- Chantel Adams, Kendle Schieber and Cassidy Lee all singled for Northwest.

Game One Key Innings
- The Bearcats stranded a pair of runners three separate innings, the first, second and sixth.
- Baldwin got out of a jam in the third after inducing a routine fly ball to left with the bases loaded.
- Torri Blythe started a two-out rally in the seventh with a single back up the middle. After Lee drew a walk, Maher knocked in a run with a solid single to center. With the tying run at the plate, Stephanie Mark flied out to deep center to end the game.

Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 2, Central Missouri 1)
- Kendle Schieber gave up two hits and struck out 11 to earn the victory. The junior faced just one over the minimum after retiring the first 15 batters. Nine of the first ten Jennies were retired via the strikeout. At the plate, Schieber slapped a pair of singles and drove in the eventual game-winning run.
- Stephanie Mark clubbed two hits, including a double to deep left center, and scored a run.
- Rebecca Maher reached base on a single and an error and scored one run.

Game Two Key Innings
- After striking out two in the first inning, Schieber struck out the side in the second and third innings.
- Mark led off the second inning with her double to left center. After moving to third on Chantel Adam's groundout, the first baseman tried to score when Baylee Scarbrough sent a grounder to the second baseman. Mark appeared to be caught between third and home, but the catcher threw the ball away down the left field line to allow Mark to score with ease.
- After the first Jennie runner reached base in the sixth, Jessica Rawie gunned her down as she attempted to swipe second.
- Maher reached on an error in the sixth and promptly moved to second when Mark sent the first pitch to left. Two batters later, Schieber sent a single up the middle to drive in Maher.
- With the tying run at the plate, Chantel Adams made a sliding catch in foul ground to record the final out of the game.

Up Next
- The Bearcats will return to the diamond next Friday, April 24 when Emporia State makes the trip to Maryville. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
