Baseball falls in finale at Emporia, 10-9

- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team fell to Emporia State on Sunday afternoon, 10-9, in Emporia, Kan.
- Northwest falls to 19-20 on the year and an even 14-14 in MIAA play. The Hornets move to 26-10 and 17-10 in conference action.
- Emporia State got a one out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to score the winning run.
- Steven Garber capped a strong weekend by blasting his fifth and sixth homeruns in the game. For the weekend, Garber was 9-for-17 (.529) with three home runs with eight RBI and seven runs scored.

- Northwest scored nine runs on 16 hits with an error. The Bearcats got two runs in the first, one in the third, one in the fourth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth.
- The Hornets had 10 runs on 14 hits and committed three errors. Emporia state had four runs in the first, four in the third, one in the fourth and one in the ninth.
- Garber was 3-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and two homeruns.
- Austin Wulff was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

- Nikko Pablo started the game, going 2.2 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits. Only five of the runs were earned.
- Austin Battaglia went 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits. He had three strikouts.
- Carson Smith pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out two but was saddled with the loss.

Key Northwest Innings
- With one out, Fort reached on an infield single to the short top. After a flyout, Garber hit his first homerun of the day, a shot to left field on a 2-2 pitch, scoring Fort.

- Garber sinlged with one out in the third and moved to second on a wild pitch. Wulff singled to move Garber to third. Greenslade singled up the middle, scoring Garber to make it 4-3 Emporia.

- Handzlik led off the fourth by reaching on an error and moved to second on the throw. Nick Gotta grounded out, moving Handzlik to third. Fort lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Handzlik.

- Wulff led off the seventh with a walk and moved to second on a Greenslade single. Wilkinson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hardegree singled to left field to score Wulff and Greenslade, making it 9-6 Emporia State.

- Fort led off the eighth with a single. After a flyout, Garber hit his second homerun of the day to left field, driving in Fort to make it 9-8 in favor of Emporia State. Wulff singled and moved to third in a Greenslade single through the right. James Holler was called upon to pinch hit and reached on a fielder's choice that scored Wulff from third to tie the game, 9-9.
