Softball drops two in Apple Market Classic


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State softball team lost two non-conference games on Saturday at the MWSU Apple Market Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
- The Bearcats tied things up with two late runs against Winona State, but the #14 Warriors scored in their last at-bat to win 3-2.
- Northwest dropped their second game of the day against Wayne State by a score of 4-1.
- The Bearcats now have an overall record of 8-12.

Game One Key Statistics (Northwest 2, Winona State 3)
- Right fielder Ashley Wilcoxson finished with her first multi-hit game of the season after slapping a pair of singles.
- Junior Kendle Schieber crushed her first home run of the year in the fifth inning.
- Stephanie Mark reached base on two base hits and also stole her first bag as a Bearcat.
- Sophomore Chantel Adams drove in one run on a single down the left field line.
- Sarah Baldwin started the game for Northwest, giving up two earned runs on five hits over six innings. The junior tallied 15 ground ball outs, compared to just one fly ball.

Game One Key Innings
- Down 2-0, Kendle Schieber led off the fifth inning with a home run to left to cut the deficit in half.
- The Bearcats tied things up in the sixth after Torri Blythe led off with a single up the middle. Blythe moved to second on Stephanie Mark's single through the hole at short and came in to score when Chantel Adams sent a single up the left field line.
- Winona State took the lead for good on a home run in the bottom of the sixth.
 

Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 1, Wayne State 4)
- Abbie Vitosh started in the circle for the Bearcats, giving up four runs on eight hits across four innings to take the loss.
- Kendle Schieber pitched the final two innings of the game, giving up two hits and striking out one Wildcat. At the plate, Schieber finished 1-for-3 with a single.
- Sophomore Ashley Wilcoxson drove in her first run in a Bearcat uniform on a single in the second inning.
- Catcher Jessica Rawie scored the lone run for Northwest.
- Rebecca Maher legged out a triple in her first at bat.

Game Two Key Innings
- After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Northwest leveled the score in the top of the second when Jessica Rawie drew a leadoff walk. Rawie advanced to second on Madison Jones' sacrifice bunt and came in to score when Ashley Wilcoxson drove a single to left.
- The Wildcats scored three runs in the fourth to reclaim the lead.
- Kendle Schieber stroked a single to left center in the seventh, but her hit wasn't enough to spark a rally for the Bearcats.

Up Next
- The Bearcats will wrap up play in St. Joseph, Mo. when they face off against Concordia-St. Paul and Northern State on Sunday. The doubleheader begins at 11 a.m.
