Bearcats, Aggies split Friday doubleheader


Story Highlights
- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team split a Friday doubleheader with Cameron University at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla.
- The Bearcats dropped the first game, 5-2, but rebounded to win the night cap, 5-3.
- Northwest is now 2-3 overall while Cameron is now 2-4.

Game One Key Statistics (Cameron 5, Northwest 2)
- Northwest scored two runs on five hits and committed two errors.
- Cameron scored five runs on six hits with one error. The Aggies had a four-run second inning and added one in the fourth.
- The game was a seven-inning contest and took one hour and 45 minutes to complete.
- Nick Gotta, Paul Johnson, Kolby Greenslade, Steven Garber and Luke Wilkinson all recorded base hits for Northwest.
- Brad Roberts got the start on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing just thre earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.
- Nikko Pablo pitched the sixth inning. He did not allow a hit and struck out a batter while walking two.
- Blake Hardegree caught two Aggies attempting to steal bases in the game.

Game One Key Innings
- The Bearcats plated a couple of runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull within two. Kolby Grreenslade singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Steven Garber in the next at bat. After Austin Wulff drew a free pass on a hit by pitch, Nick Howard reached on an error to load the bases. With one out, Blake Hardegree hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Garber.
 
Game Two Key Statistics (Northwest 5, Cameron 3)
- Northwest scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- The Bearcats got eight hits and committed four errors. Cameron scored three runs on four hits with two errors.
- The Aggies scored two runs in the fourth and added one more in the fifth.
- Nick Gotta hit a fifth-inning home run which drove in Garrett Fort who drew a two-out walk.
- Gotta finished the day with two hits, three RBI and a run scored.
- Kolby Greenslade was 2-for-5 on the day.
- Paul Johnson, Nick Howard, Derek Meyer and Fort all picked up hits.
- Meyer had two RBI, both coming in the sixth inning.
- Anthony Caenepeel got the win, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits.
- Patrick Brady, Rob Henrichs, Austin Battaglia and Carson Smith all worked scoreless innings.
- Brady had three strikouts in his one inning of work.
- Smith picked up his first save of the season after working the ninth. He did not allow a hit and had a pair of strikeouts.

Game Two Key Inning
- Down 3-2 heading into the sixth, Northwest pulled ahead with a three-run inning. Austin Wulff led off by reaching base on an error and moved to second on a Nick Howard single. Both runners advanced after James Holler grounded out putting runners on second and third with one out. Derek Meyer came up with a two-run single to left, scoring Howard and Wulff. Aaron Barratt came in to pinch run for Meyer and after stealing second, scored on a Nick Gotta single.

- The Bearcats and Cameron will play a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon.
