Volleyball drops hard fought match to Griffons


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University fell to Missouri Western, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in an MIAA contest at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo.
- The loss drops the Bearcats to 10-5 on the season and 3-2 in MIAA play. Missouri Western improves to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
- The Bearcats got 17 kills from Maddy Bruder and 16 from Miranda Foster. Five players recorded double-digit kill totals for the match.
- Northwest hit .306 while winning the third set, 25-20. The Bearcats converted 12-of-21 sideout opportunities (57%) in that set.

- Along with her 17 kills, Bruder also tallied 13 digs and a service ace.
- Foster tallied 12 digs and a pair of block assists for Northwest. Shelby Duren had 11 kills and a team-best 16 digs with a service ace and a block.
- Sarah Dannettell had 43 assists with 13 digs, four kills and a block assist.
- Aarika Wittenburg had 13 digs and a service ace. Alexis Williams had a team-high three block assists with six kills.
- The Griffons hit .258 as a team and tallied nine total blocks.

Key Northwest Sequences
- Late in the third set, Northwest fell behind 19-18. A pair of Becker kills put Northwest up 20-19 but a Duren service error tied the score, 20-20. Foster tallied a kill to make it 21-20 and then Northwest forced a Griffon attack error to make it 22-20, prompting a Missouri Western timeout. After the break, Bruder added her third kill of the set to make it 23-20. Missouri Western was whistled for a bad set to make it set point, 24-20. Northwest put the set away on Foster's fourth kill of the set, coming on an assist from Dannettell, who had 12 helpers in the set.
