Volleyball sweeps SBU to begin weekend


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Southwest Baptist on Friday evening at the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Mo.
- Northwest moved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in MIAA play. SBU falls to 3-18 overall and 1-9 in conference action.
- Maddy Bruder had a match-high 13 kills for the Bearcats in the victory.
- Shelby Duren added 10 kills to go along with 11 digs defensively. She also had a pair of blocks while hitting 64.3 percent for the match.
- It was Northwest's 10th 3-0 sweep victory of the season.

- Senior libero Aarika Wittenburg had a match-high 14 digs and also added a service ace.
- Northwest hit .289 for the match with 42 kills while limiting SBU to just 27 kills and a .098 attack percentage.
- Sarah Dannettell had 32 assists to go along with four kills and two digs.
- Jackie Becker had four six kills and and a match-high four blocks.
- Alexis Williams had six kills and three total blocks.
- Miranda Foster had nine digs and three kills and three blocks.
- Gabby Torline had a pair of service aces for Northwest.

Key Northwest Sequences
- After picking up the first two sets, Northwest battled tough with SBU in the third. Northwest fell behind 5-4 early in the third set but rallied to take an early lead. After an SBU service error to tie the match, 5-5, Northwest got a kill from Becker and went up by two after a bad set on SBU, 7-5. SBU was forced into an attacking error to make it 8-5 and Becker and Foster combined for a block to make it 9-5. Duren added a kill to make it 10-5 to cap the 6-0 Northwest run.

- Northwest earned a match point at 24-19 in the third but SBU battled back with a 5-0 run to tie it up, 24-24. After a Northwest timeout, Foster came up with a big kill from a Dannettell pass to make it 25-24. On Northwest's sixth match point, SBU hit into an attacking error to give Northwest the victory.
