Lindsey's late game magic lifts Bearcats over Lopers

Story Highlights
- The Northwest Missouri State soccer team scored two goals in the final four minutes of competition to defeat Nebraska Kearney in stunning fashion, 2-1.
- 195 fans attended the Sunday matinee at Bearcat Pitch in Maryville.
- The Bearcats improve to 3-7-3 this season and 2-5-1 in the MIAA, while the Lopers drop to 4-7-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference.
- Katelynn Lindsey scored two goals, both off free kicks, bringing the defender's season total up to three.
- This was the fifth time Northwest played in an overtime game this season, the most since 2012 (5).

Key Northwest Statistics
- Senior Katelynn Lindsey scored on both of her shots on goal while anchoring a back line that conceded just one goal.
- Anna Holden attempted three shots, but all three were off the mark. Holden had a chance to score early in the second half after she dribbled past the keeper to the left of the goal. The senior's shot from a tough angle bounced off the post and out of play.
- Crystal McElhose took two shots with one being saved in the first half. A Chelsea Fournier corner kick found McElhose near the six-yard box, but the goalie was able to corral the shot.
- Fournier attempted two shots herself, one of which was on frame. The junior pulled the trigger from the edge of the box in the 43rd minute, but the Loper goalie made her third save in the half.
- Sara Worsfold's took a chance on goal from outside the box late in the first half that was saved.
- Senior Elizabeth Lee made five saves in the match.

Key Moments of the Match
- With the wind at her back, Katelynn Lindsey stood over a free kick from 35 yards out in the 88th minute. Lindsey chose to put the ball on frame and over the outreached arms of the keeper, leveling the score at one.

- Less than two minutes into the overtime period, the Bearcats again drew a foul in their offensive third. Lindsey stepped up to take the free kick, this time from near the left sideline, 30 yards away from the goal. Lindsey sent the ball to the far post. The wind carried it over a scrum of players in the box and over the head of the keeper, giving the Bearcats a stunning 2-1 victory.

Up Next
- The Bearcats will return to the road on Friday, Oct. 23 when they head to St. Charles, Mo. for a 5 p.m. meeting with the Lindenwood Lions.
