Mules take two from Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State baseball team dropped both games of a double header Friday to No. 19 Central Missouri, falling in game one, 9-6, then game two, 6-1.

Both teams plated three runs in the first three innings before going scoreless the next three. Game one was originally scheduled for a seven inning affair but became a nine inning contest.

UCM went up in the top half of the eighth inning to take a 6-3 lead before the Bearcats answered back in the bottom half with three runs of their own to send the game to the ninth.

The Mules put up three more runs in the top of the ninth and Northwest went down in order in the bottom half as they fell in game one, 9-6.

Austin Wulff went 3 for 4 in game one with two singles and a double while knocking in three RBI's.

Blane Reutter suffered his first loss of the season, moving his record to 3-1.

The Bearcats and Mules both plated one run each in the second inning. Wulff hit his second double of the day to bring in Jon Pomatto from second.

UCM then scored one run in the third and fourth innings before putting up three runs in the fifth.

The Northwest offense was unable to recover and dropped game two, 6-1.

Hondo Pearcy received the loss in game two as he is now 3-3 on the season.

The Bearcats, now 19-16, 14-13, will take on UCM in double header action Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon. The game was originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, but was moved up due to weather conditions moving into the area.
