Box Score MARYVILLE, Mo. – The wind was howling Wednesday at Bearcat Field, but that did not stop the Northwest Missouri State baseball team from putting up 10 runs and bringing home a 10-3 victory against Rockhurst.
The offenses were silenced for the first three and a half innings before Northwest broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
RU answered back with one run of their own in the top of the fifth inning before tying up the contest in the seventh.
The Bearcat offense took advantage of wild pitches in the seventh and eighth innings plating four runs in each, while the Northwest pitching staff held RU to one more run in the top of the eighth.
Head Coach Darin Loe sent nine different pitchers to the hill in the nine inning game. The staff combined to strike out nine while allowing only two earned runs. Nikko Pablo ended up taking home the win in the 10-3 victory, his first of the season.
Ryan Abernathy led the Bearcats in hitting as he was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Abernathy also tagged his eighth double of the season. Zack Ferreira was also handy with the bat going 2 for 3 on the game.
Northwest, now 15-10, heads back out on the road as they head to Washburn for a MIAA series. The four game series will start Friday, with game one scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
