Women's Basketball comes up short to start the season

- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team fell to #25 Northern Sate, 73-49, on Friday evening in Wayne, Neb.
- The two teams met in the MIAA/NSIC Crossover, hosted by Wayne State College.

- After shooting 22 percent in the first half (7-for-32), Northwest came out of the break and outshot the Wolves 58.3 percent (14-for-24) to 57.7 percent (15-for-26).
- The Bearcats corralled 30 rebounds, 13 of which were on the offensive end.
- Northwest was 7-for-9 from the charity stripe, good for 77.8 percent.
- In addition to her 14 points, Ariel Easton accumulated eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- After missing last season due to injury, Maggie Marnin came off the bench for the Bearcats and totaled nine points, going 4-for-5 from the field.
- Tember Schechinger added six points and four rebounds for Northwest.
- Making her first start in a Bearcat uniform, Samantha Hurst led the way defensively with three steals and a block.
- Fellow newcomer Taylor Shull contributed four points, two assists, and one rebound.

Key Sequence
- After spotting the Wolves a 12 point lead, Tanya Meyer opened the scoring for the Bearcats after a pass from Taylor Shull. After a stop on the defensive end, Easton made a pair of free throws to close the gap to 12-4. The Wolves hit a free throw, followed by a second-chance layup by Hurst to make the score 13-6. Northern State went on to score nine of the next 13 points scored to extend the lead to double digits, where it would remain for the rest of the contest.

- Northwest will continue play in the MIAA/NSIC Crossover on Saturday when it goes up against host Wayne State College at 4 p.m. The Bearcats will open their home schedule Monday, Nov. 17 when they host College of Saint Mary (Neb.) at 6 p.m.
