PITTSBURG, Kan.-Pittsburg State guard Spencer Magana scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Gorillas to a 77-68 win against Northwest Missouri State Saturday at John Lance Arena. The Bearcats received 15 points from Elijah Allen, but were denied their third win in a row.
Pittsburg State trailed 35-31 at halftime, but scored 46 second-half points and committed a season-low five turnovers to end an eight-game losing streak. The Gorillas (8-14, 2-13 MIAA) entered play averaging nearly 15 turnovers per game.
Magana was 7-of-10 from the floor, including a 3-for-4 effort from 3-point range, and made 12-of-13 free throws. The Gorillas shot 58 percent in the second half, 52 for the game, and made 21-of-31 free throws.
The Bearcats (11-11, 6-9) also shot 52 percent, but committed 14 turnovers. Allen finished 5-of-8 from the field as did Edriss Floyd, who finished with 12 points. Girod Adams added 13 points and handed out five assists for Northwest.
