EMPORIA, Kan.-Lance Sullivan scored a career-high 28 points, including 13 in overtime to lead Northwest Missouri State to a 91-83 double-overtime victory at Emporia State Saturday at WL White Auditorium.

The win snaps a two-game skid for the Bearcats and propels the team into a four-way tie for third place in the MIAA standings. Northwest (14-6, 6-5 MIAA) has won four in a row at Emporia (11-9, 6-5) and is now 9-1 in game''s played outside of Maryville this season.

Sullivan gave Northwest a 66-64 lead with a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in regulation. He hit a 3 and four free throws in the first overtime and a 3 and three free throws in the second overtime. He hit five 3-pointers in the contest and was 13-of-14 from the line.

Marvin Lee forced overtime with a bucket near the end of regulation and Andrew Davison nearly won it. Davison rebounded a missed 3 by Sullivan in the final seconds of regulation and banked in a half-court shot, which appeared to give the Hornets the win. The three referees checked the replay tape, met at half court and ruled the shot no good.

Northwest had a 75-72 lead in the final minute of the first overtime, but DeAndre Townsend tied it with his second 3 of the game. Townsend, the league''s leading scorer, was 15-of-15 from the free-throw line and scored a game-high 30 points.

Northwest got big plays from Hunter Henry and John Hawkins to start the second overtime. Henry tipped in a miss to give the Bearcats a 77-75 lead. Hawkins stripped Townsend on the ensuing possession and went coast-to-coast to make it 79-75.

Sullivan hit a 3-pointer and Northwest made 7-of-8 free throws in the final minutes to pull away. Northwes shot 56 percent in overtime compared to 30 percent for Emporia.

Hunter and Matt Withers each posted double-doubles for Northwest. Hunter had 13 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and six steals. Withers had 14 points and 11 boards. Northwest outrebounded Emporia 45-38.
