Northwest (16-6, 8-5 MIAA) has swept Truman (4-18, 3-10) for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Bulldogs have lost five in a row overall and fall to 1-9 inside Bearcat Arena dating back to 1999.

The Bearcats, meanwhile, pick up a game on Southwest Baptist, which lost to Washburn Wednesday. SBU and Missouri Southern are now tied atop the league standings at 10-3. Northwest is alone in third at 8-5.

Northwest''s last two opponents have failed to score 50 points. It''s the seventh time this season the Bearcats have held a team to 50 points or less.

Truman forward Nick Certa scored a game-high 15 points on 5 of 16 shooting. Andy Peterson led Northwest with 12. Matt Withers failed to score 10 points for the first time in six games, but had nine points and seven boards for the Bearcats.

Lance Sullivan was scoreless in the first half, but drilled back-to-back 3-pointers for Northwest to begin the second. Northwest''s first four field goals of the second half were 3''s.

Eddie Gray and Cayruth went back-to-back from behind the arc to make it 49-40, then Cayruth took an Elijah Allen pass, drove to the rim, made the layup and was fouled to give the Bearcats their first double-digit lead with 13 minutes to play.

The Bulldogs scored the next five points, but managed just four points in the final 11 minutes of the game. Truman was 4 of 19 as a team in the second half (21.1 percent) after shooting 58.3 percent in the first.

Hunter Henry raced to beat the shot clock with a 3 with six minutes left and missed, but Peterson grabbed the rebound and found Hawkins wide open for a spot-up 3. He nailed it to put the Bearcats up 10 with five minutes to go.

Hawkins hit a season-high three 3-pointers. Cayruth''s two treys were his first of the season after entering the game 0 for 5.

Peterson stole the ball on Truman''s opening possession and flushed it on the other end for the game''s first points. Peterson hit his first three shots and scored seven of Northwest''s first 13 points. He had 10 at the break.
