Northwest Missouri State University head track and field coach Brandon Masters has named Tanner Berg as the program’s throws coach.
Berg put together a storied collegiate career at Northern State University (Aberdeen, S.D.) that saw him finish it off with a 2022 national title in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Mich.
“I am very excited to announce that Tanner Berg has joined our Northwest coaching staff,” Masters said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and success in the throwing events. Tanner had a fantastic athletic career, and I am looking forward to working with him to help launch our program in a new and exciting direction.”
Berg concluded his Northern State career as a seven-time track and field All-America performer. He tallied two All-America honors in the hammer throw in 2021 and 2022. In addition, he was a 4-time All-America honoree in the weight throw, placing as high as second 2022, and a 2021 indoor All-America athlete in the shot put.
The Watertown, S.D., native was a 14-time all-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honoree and a five-time NSIC individual champion for the Wolves as he competed from 2018-2022. He owns three school records at NSU in the indoor shot put (57’1”), weight throw (74’1”) and hammer throw (231’5”).
Berg has served as a volunteer assistant coach at Kansas State University for the past two seasons in Manhattan, Kan.
He attained his Bachelor of Science degree in human performance and fitness with a minor in coaching from Northern State in May 2021.
