Nyla Peterkin came to Northwest in the fall of 2018, becoming the Graduate Assistant for Bearcat Soccer. Nyla will also assist Northwest Women’s Soccer by serving as the Goalkeeper Coach for the team.
Nyla came to Northwest after attending Ferris State University, where she was a goalkeeper for the Ferris State Women’s Soccer program, coached by Andy McCaslin. As an undergraduate at Ferris State Nyla received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, while also receiving a Sports Communication Certificate. Previous to attending Ferris State, Nyla began her collegiate academic and athletic career at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. While at Ashford, Nyla was coached by Eddie Garza.

Nyla received many awards throughout her academic and athletic playing career, such awards include;
- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All Excellence Award – Fall 2017.
- Dean's List at Ferris State University – Spring 2018, Fall 2017, and Summer 2017.
- Dean’s List at Ashford University – Fall and Spring 2014-2015.
- 2015 A.I.I. Conference Champion.
- 2015 A.I.I. Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
- 2015 A.I.I. All-Tournment Team.
- 2015 A.I.I. 1st Team All-Conference.
- 2014 A.I.I. Conference Honorable Mention.
Activities and Awards
Nyla was also a member of the FI Mu Sigma Eta Math and Science Honor Society at Ashford University, as well as a member of Golden Key International Honor Society member. Nyla received her HEADS UP Concussion Training for Youth Sports Coaches Certification in the summer of 2017 and later completed her American Heart Association CPR/AED Certification in the fall of the same year.
Work and Volunteer Experience
Nyla has obtained a vast array of work and volunteer experience before arriving at Northwest Missouri State University. Nyla has served as the Social Media and Website Coordinator for Master’s Fútbol Academy in Toronto, Canada, Soccer Camp Counselor at Ferris State University, Administrative Volunteer & Child Life Volunteer at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, as well as working at Ashford University as a Facilities Assistant.
