Kayla Fonken will serve as the athletic trainer for Northwest's track & field and cross country programs.
Fonken earned a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University in 2015. Fonken completed her master's degree in athletic training from Texas Tech University in 2018.
Prior to Northwest, she served as an assistant athletic trainer at Creekview High School in Texas. Creekview is a large class 5A school with approximately 900 athletes. She treated on average 50 athletes per day, which involved daily treatments and rehabilitation of various sports injuries. She also served as a sports medicine instructor for grades nine through 12. She was a member of the crisis team that dealt with planning and training for a mass casualty or disaster situation.
Fonken began her collegiate career at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She is a native of Blairsburg, Iowa.
