Kit Meiners is entering her first season as an assistant coach for the Bearcat softball team after spending the last two seasons (2014-15) as the graduate assistant. Meiners spent two seasons playing for the Bearcats (2010-11) after spending two years at Iowa Central Community College.
Meiners helped coach Ryan Anderson lead the Bearcats to a 26-24 record in 2015, winning multiple postseason games for the first time since 2008. The roster included 15 players who earned academic honors and four all-conference athletes.
In her first season as a graduate assistant, Meiners helped coach the MIAA Freshman of the Year in Chantel Adams, who also earned second All-Central Region honors.
Meiners started all 44 games for Northwest as a senior in 2011, leading the team with a .382 batting average and 15 stolen bases. Eight of her 63 hits were home runs. She started 43 games in her first season as a Bearcat in 2010, accumulating a 12-game hitting streak and finishing with nine stolen bases.
Meiners earned second-team NFCA All-America honors as a freshman at Iowa Central, batting .408 with 13 home runs, 64 RBI, 66 runs and 31 stolen bases. She played in just 20 games as a sophomore due to injury, recording a .467 average with 20 stolen bases and 23 runs.
A native of Knoxville, Iowa, Meiners was named All-State three times and All-Conference all four years. She graduated holding the season and career records in singles, doubles, triples, home runs, hits and batting average for the Panthers.
