PRIOR TO NORTHWEST
Laing was a four-time South Central Conference first team performer at Chariton High School, recording 1,937 points and 433 assists in his prep career. His team, coached by Ben Schooley, won three straight conference championships. As a senior, he led his team to a fourth place finish in the 3A state tournament, earning first team all-state honors. He earned third team all-state honors during his sophomore and junior seasons. In the classroom, Laing was a member of the National Honor Society, garnered the Principal's Award, earned Academic All-Conference honors and graduated in the top-20 of his class at Chariton High School.
