Javier Martinez

Javier Martinez enters his third year on the Bearcat coaching staff as a volunteer coach, acting as the hitting coach, catching coach, and camp coordinator with the program.  
Martinez has helped the Bearcats to a mark of 63-43 in two seasons that has included the program's 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament. 
 
Martinez led the offense of a team that achieved a mark of 36-18 in the 2026 season, which included a program-tying 25 MIAA wins and a fourth-place finish in the league. The Bearcats won eight of 12 series in league play including regular season sweeps of Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern. The 36 wins tied for the second-most in a single season in Bearcat baseball history. Northwest had six wins over ranked opponents in 2026. Northwest gained the first national ranking for the program since the 2004 season. It also marked the first national ranking in the ABCA Coaches Poll in program history. During this stretch, the Bearcats set single-season school records for home runs (79), runs scored (45), RBI (416) and walks (295). 
  
Martinez’ previous coaching stint was at the University of Chicago, joining in the fall of 2022 to assist in hitting and catching. He spent the previous three seasons (2018-2020) at his alma mater, College of DuPage (COD), working on developing hitters and catchers.  
  
As a player, Martinez began his career at COD, eventually becoming one of the best hitters in the country in 2016. He led the nation with 74 RBI, while earning Region IV player of the year and NJCAA All-America honors. The slugger continued his career at Northwood University (NU), helping lead the Timberwolves to back-to-back NCAA regional appearances. The 2017 team broke a 52-year post-season drought at Northwood, capturing the regular season and conference tournament titles, along with hosting an NCAA Regional Tournament. In 2018, Martinez’s final season, he contributed to another regional and was an all-conference selection.
