The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team will look to bounce back this week with pair of matches including the home opener Thursday at 5 p.m. against Maryville University.
 
Northwest will celebrate Youth Day with a poster signing following Thursday's home match against Maryville at the Bearcat Pitch.
 
The Bearcats (0-2-0 overall) began the season with road setbacks to Northern State (L, 1-0) and Bemidji State (L, 2-1). Maryville is 0-2-0 after dropping matchups to No. 4 Washburn (L, 4-0) and Emporia State (L, 3-2). Augustana (1-0-1) tied Southern Nazarene before securing a 2-0 victory at Central Oklahoma.
 
Northwest and Maryville met last season in St. Louis, Mo., with the Saints coming away with a 2-1 victory. Ximena Arnau landed the Bearcat goal on an assist from Lillie Shaw in last year's matchup against the Saints.
 
Northwest has won two straight games with Augustana in the all-time series. Northwest collected a 1-0 triumph Sept. 18, 2024, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Northwest claimed a 2-1 victory over Augie on the Bearcat Pitch on Sept. 8, 2023. Northwest owns a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with Augustana.
 
Senior Ximena Arnau connected on a penalty kick for Northwest's goal at Bemidji State. Arnau is 3-of-4 on penalty kicks in her Bearcat career. Arnau has tallied 11 career goals in her four seasons donning the Green and White. Arnau has gained eight career assists to tie for No. 8 all-time in program history. Arnau is tied for 10^th on Northwest's all-time points list. Arnau was a second-team all-MIAA pick in 2025.

Senior Makenna West leads the squad with six shots taken through the first two matches. West has produced six game-winning goals to rank tied for fourth in program history. West tallied seven goals last year and has recorded 10 career goals for the Bearcats. West was a second-team all-MIAA performer in 2025.

Bearcat goalkeepers Taryn Lewis and Leyah Scott each drew a start in the opening weekend of play. Lewis and Scott each tallied six saves in 90 minutes of action.
 
Northwest was picked to finish sixth in the 2026 MIAA Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. The Bearcats placed fifth last year in the MIAA race with a mark of 7-4-1 in league play.

Head coach Marc Gordon has served as the program's leader since the 2018 season. Gordon is the only coach in Bearcat history with a winning record (59-56-21). Gordon's teams have been productive in the MIAA with a 38-30-11 mark in conference matches. Gordon was the 2021 MIAA Coach of the Year and led the Bearcats to their only NCAA Tournament bids in 2021 and 2022.
 
Gordon has led Northwest to six consecutive MIAA Tournament appearances. Gordon has helped guide Northwest to five consecutive winning seasons. Prior to Gordon taking over, Northwest had four winning seasons in program history.
