Witt posts historic 800m time in Arkansas; Bearcats battle for qualifying times

The Northwest Missouri State University track and field teams opened a multi-meet weekend Friday with five event titles, four new provisional times, and a historic 800-meter performance from Riley Witt.
 
At the Arkansas Twilight, Riley Witt recorded the eighth-fastest 800-meter time in NCAA Division II history while finishing as the top DII competitor in the field. Witt's performance shattered his own school record and gave him the second-fastest Div. II time so far this season.
 
Jadyn Barnes and Barnabe Gabillet each secured event titles and provisional qualifying marks at the Concordia Twilight in the women's 800-meter run and men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Gabillet's time was highlighted by a new facility record.
 
Frank Sparks, David Parker II, and Kalyn Washburn headlined the Ward Haylett Invitational by capturing individual event titles in their respective events.
 
Concordia Twilight Events
(M) 800m Run: Freshman Josh Fraker crossed the finish line with a new Div. II provisional mark of 1:49.97, earning him fourth overall in the event and the fourth-fastest time in school history. Juniors Christian Lanphier (1:50.67) and Charlie Kinslow (1:51.83) secured fifth and ninth, respectively. Lanphier's time qualified as a provisional mark. 
 
(W) 800m Run: Junior Jadyn Barnes captured the event title with a new provisional time of 2:08.83.
 
(M) 3,000m Steeplechase: Senior Barnabe Gabillet claimed the event crown with a provisional time of 9:00.16. Gabillet set the new Bulldog Stadium facility record in the event.
 
Ward Haylett Invitational Running Events
(M) 100m Dash: Freshman Isaiah Bates placed third overall and first among Div. II athletes with a time of 10.65.
 
(M) 400m Dash: Senior Logan Arellano secured a Div. II provisional time of 47.34 and earned eighth place overall. Sophomore Juan Hernandez crossed the finish line with a time of 48.74, earning 11th overall and fourth among Div. II. 
 
(M) 110m Hurdles: Sophomore Frank Sparks captured the event title with a provisional time of 14.32.
 
(M) 400m Hurdles: Sophomore Aiden O'Leary secured a time of 53.33 and earned third place.
 
(W) 400m Hurdles: Kendall Tietjen claimed fifth place overall with a provisional time of 1:00.21.
 
Ward Haylett Invitational Field Events
(M) High Jump: Junior Jeremiah Rainey-Dunlap leaped a height of 2.02m (6-7.5), earning him sixth overall and a new personal best.
 
(M) Long Jump: Frank Sparks captured a runner-up finish with a leap of 7.01m (23-0). 
 
(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore David Parker II finished with a leap of 14.33m (47-0.25). Parker II was the sole competitor. 
 
(W) Javelin Throw: Freshman Kalyn Washburn secured the event crown with a provisional throw of 42.72m (140-2).
 
Arkansas Twilight Events
(M) 800m Run: Senior Riley Witt provided a historic performance in the men's 800-meter run with a new provisional time of 1:45.96. His time captured the eighth-fastest time in NCAA Division II history, reset his own school record for the third time this season, and provided the second-fastest Div. II time this season. Witt placed second overall and claimed first place among Div. II competitors. 
 
(M) 1,500m Run: Junior Grayson Tapp earned 17th overall with a provisional time of 3:46.51 and secured the fifth-fastest time in the Northwest record books.
