2025-26 OUTDOOR SEASON CHECK-IN:
Northwest competed in the 2026 MIAA Championship meet this past weekend, capturing eight individual event titles, seven new school records, two meet records broken and top-three finishes for both men's and women's teams.

In the recent week six USTFCCCA TFRI rankings, the men's squad rose to No. 7 nationally and the women's team jumping up to No. 9 in the country.

The men hold steady with their Central Region rankings at No. 3, with the women rising to No. 7. At the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Championships, both the Bearcat men (116 points) and women (123 points) claimed third-place team finishes.

Northwest has collected 37 NCAA Division II provisional marks this season across 13 meets— 23 by the Bearcat men and 14 by the women.

To secure a national berth, athletes rank within the top 18 of those provisional times. Currently, Northwest has 14 individual entries and three relay teams positioned to qualify for the national championships, with 10 total entries for the men and seven for the women.

Olivia Bakker had a standout performance in the women's 10,000-meter run by shattering the Northwest school record and capturing a top-five placement for the 'Cats.

In the men's hammer throw, Dustin Wurtz secured the second-farthest throw in school history while earning a top-10 finish and a provisional mark.

Kiki Witt stole the spotlight by shattering the MIAA Championship meet record and the Northwest school record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase to capture the event title. Both records were previously held by former Bearcat standout Caroline Cunningham. Witt also captured a second event title in the women's 5,000-meter run, etching her name into Northwest's all-time record books with her performance.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Barnabe Gabillet secured a podium finish for the 'Cats, claiming third place overall.

Drew Atkins headlined the men's 5,000-meter run, claiming the conference crown and shattering the MIAA Championship meet record.

Both the women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m relay squads shattered school records to secure runner-up finishes. To cap off the championships, the women's 4x400m relay team claimed the conference title and set a new facility record.

Before claiming a title in the 4x400 meter relay, Melanie Roland claimed the individual 400-meter crown. Her performance set a new facility record and reset her own time in the school record books.

Northwest completed a sweep of the 800-meter conference titles as Riley Witt captured the men's crown and Marie Dea secured the women's victory.

Kendall Tietjen added to the Bearcat title haul by capturing the conference crown in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding cross country/track & field programs in each of the NCAA's three divisions, the NAIA and the NJCAA for each gender in those levels. The award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at their respective national championships.

Based on the team's finish at each championship (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

Northwest's men's squad currently ranks sixth among Division II programs with 19 points. The Bearcats earned 11 points from an 11th-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships and added eight points following an eighth-place finish at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships.
