The No. 29-ranked Northwest Missouri State University baseball team will look to capture the program's first MIAA Tournament championship this week in Edmond, Okla.
 
The Bearcats (35-15 overall) earned the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Central Missouri Thursday at 10 a.m. in the first MIAA Tournament quarterfinal. Northwest is ranked No. 29 in the nation and UCM is ranked No. 30 in this week's ABCA Coaches Poll. 


Northwest reached the MIAA Tournament title game in 2025. Central Oklahoma knocked off Northwest in the championship game, 11-4, to claim the UCO's first MIAA tourney crown. The Bronchos are one of six programs to have won an MIAA Tournament title.

Northwest went 8-4 in MIAA series this year. The Bearcats picked up MIAA series wins over
Fort Hays State (2-1), Emporia State (2-1), Missouri Southern (3-0), Washburn (2-1), Pittsburg State (3-0), Arkansas-Fort Smith (3-0), Northeastern State (3-0) and Newman (3-0).
 
Northwest is 12-4 in one-run games. The Bearcats have outscored the opposition 122-78 in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings this season. Northwest is 3-1 in extra-inning contests.
 
The Bearcats are 5-4 vs. ranked opponents this season, including a three-game sweep of No. 2-ranked Pittsburg State.

He worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the victory … on Sunday, De Santiago tied a season-high with three innings of relief work and gained the win when Northwest walked off a 9-8 triumph in the 11th inning … allowed a run in the ninth with two outs to allowed Pitt State to force extra innings … he worked around a double in the 10th but kept the Gorillas scoreless in the 10th and 11th before the Bearcats walked off another win in the bottom of the 11th to complete a three-game sweep … picked up a win and a save in a doubleheader at UAFS … UAFS staged a comeback in the eighth, scoring four runs, yet Northwest Missouri State preserved its lead at 11-10 … De Santiago closed out the game, securing the victory … De Santiago entered in the eighth with the tying run and third and he recorded a strikeout … UAFS loaded the bases in the ninth with no outs before De Santiago collected three consecutive strikeouts to secure his fourth save of the season.
 
Sophomore Logan Brasel is 3-3 on the season and has a 5.97 ERA with a 1.53 WHIP and 49 strikeouts … in nine MIAA starts, Brasel is 3-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 48 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts
 
Sophomore Jase Johnson is 4-0 in his 20 relief appearances … has tossed 33 2/3 innings with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP … has struck out 31 batters, which ranks fourth on the team.
 
Junior Bronco Whitt is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 appearances … has struck out 13 batters.
 
Senior Landon Wells is 4-2 with a 5.35 ERA in 35 1/3 innings pitched … has struck out 27 and walked 19.
 
Sophomore Gage Busby has made nine starts and is 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP.
 
Northwest head coach Tony Jandron led the Bearcats to a berth in the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament championship game while securing the most ever wins by a first-year coach in program history.
 
Jandron guided the Bearcats to a 27-25 mark in the 2025 season. Northwest went 19-17 in MIAA play and earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. In 2025, the Bearcats set the program record for home runs (57) in a single season.
 
The Bearcats were selected to finish ninth in the 2026 MIAA preseason coaches poll.
