Atkins and Roland lead Northwest's seven-title haul at MIAA Championships final day

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State University track and field squads finished the MIAA Championships strong, with seven individual event titles, four new school records, a meet record broken and top-three finishes for both men's and women's teams.
 
Both the Bearcat men (116 points) and women (123 points) claimed third-place team finishes. The top spots for both men's and women's divisions were occupied by Pittsburg State in first, and Missouri Southern in second.
 
Drew Atkins headlined the men's 5,000-meter run, claiming the conference crown and shattering the MIAA Championship meet record.
 
Kiki Witt continued her dominant streak by capturing her second event title of the weekend in the women's 5,000-meter run, etching her name into Northwest's all-time record books with her performance.
 
Both the women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m relay squads shattered school records to secure runner-up finishes. To cap off the championships, the women's 4x400m relay team claimed the conference title and set a new facility record.
 
Before claiming a title in the 4x400 meter relay, Melanie Roland claimed the individual 400-meter crown. Her performance set a new facility record and reset her own time in the school record books.
 
Northwest completed a sweep of the 800-meter conference titles as Riley Witt captured the men's crown and Marie Dea secured the women's victory.
 
Kendall Tietjen added to the Bearcat title haul by capturing the conference crown in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

Running Events 
(M) 100m Dash: Freshman Isaiah Bates secured a runner-up finish with a new personal record time of 10.44 – earning him the fourth-fastest time in Northwest school history. 
 
(W) 100m Dash: Sophomore Krysta Abel improved upon her qualifying time, claiming a new Div. II provisional time of 11.56, and capturing the third-best time in the school record books. Abel set a new personal best. Juniors Jaurdin Mallory (11.79) and Hallie Henfling (11.89) placed fifth and sixth for the 'Cats, respectively. 
 
(W) 200m Dash: Hallie Henfling also secured sixth overall in the 200-meter dash and earned the ninth-best time in school history with a personal best mark of 24.12.
 
(M) 400m Dash: Junior Truman Hare smashed the school record in the men's 400-meter dash with a new provisional time of 45.90, which earned him a third-place finish. Senior Logan Arellano crossed the finish line with a new provisional time of 47.06 and claimed eighth place in the event – resetting his own sixth-fastest-time in school history. Both Hare and Arellano claimed personal best records. 
 
(W) 400m Dash: Senior Melanie Roland captured the event crown in the women's 400-meter dash with a new provisional time of 52.15. Roland's time beat out her own second-fastest mark in school history and set the new Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record in the event. Sophomore Kennedi Cline claimed a new provisional time of 53.57, securing her a runner-up finish and the fifth-fastest time in the Northwest record books. Both Roland and Cline earned personal best times.
 
(M) 800m Run: Senior Riley Witt secured the event title in the men's 800-meter run with a provisional time of 1:49.73. Aziz Mohammed (1:50.80), Josh Fraker (1:51.67), and Maxime Touron (1:51.74) captured third, fourth, and fifth respectively. 
 
(W) 800m Run: Sophomore Marie Dea claimed the event crown in the women's 800-meter run with a provisional time of 2:10.89. Junior Jadyn Barnes placed third with a time of 2:12.33 along with senior Lydia McGlocklin who earned a time of 2:15.88 to place sixth.
 
(M) 110m Hurdles: Frank Sparks earned a provisional time of 14.20 and placed fourth overall.
 
(M) 400m Hurdles: Junior Danny Jantzen reset his own school record with a new Div. II provisional time of 51.07 and claimed a runner-up finish in the event. Sophomore Aiden O'Leary secured a seventh-place finish with a provisional time of 52.96.
 
(W) 400m Hurdles: Kendall Tietjen captured the event title in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a provisional mark of 1:00.14 – breaking her own Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record she set on Friday. Josie McGraw crossed the finish line with a time of 1:05.23 and finished in ninth. 
 
(M) 1,500m Run: Aziz Mohammed (3:52.48), Maxime Touron (3:53.00) and Grayson Tapp (3:54.00) secured second, third and fourth in the event, respectively. Jack Williams earned a time of 3:56.31 and claimed an eighth-place finish. 
 
(W) 1,500m Run: Senior Lydia McGlocklin earned a time of 4:41.46 to secure fourth place. Junior Mayson Hartley grabbed a sixth-place finish with a time of 4:44.15.
 
(M) 5,000m Run: Drew Atkins captured first place in the event with provisional time of 14:04.03. Atkins time ranks as the new MIAA Championship meet record and the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record in the men's 5,000-meter run.
 
(W) 5,000m Run: Senior Kiki Witt secured her second MIAA event title with her first-place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run. Witt finished with a time 17:22.12, giving her the fourth-fastest in school history and the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record. Sophomore Olivia Bakker placed 10th with a time of 18:00.79.
 
(W) 4x100m Relay: Northwest's women's 4x100-meter relay squad, consisting of Krysta Abel, Kennedi Cline, Jaurdin Mallory and Hallie Henfling, broke the school record with a new Div. II provisional time of 44.90 and earned a second-place finish. 
 
(M) 4x400m Relay: Danny Jantzen, Logan Arellano, Christian Lanphier and Truman Hare secured second in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a provisional time of 3:05.84 – shattering the school record in the event.
 
(W) 4x400m Relay: Northwest's women's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Jadyn Barnes, Kennedi Cline, Marie Dea and Melanie Roland, claimed the event crown with a provisional time of 3:36.73. The team's time ranks as the sixth-fastest time in Northwest's record books as well as setting the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record.
 
Field Events
(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore David Parker II placed fifth overall with a Div. II provisional mark of 14.89m (48-10.25).
 
(W) Triple Jump: Freshman Abigail Troncin claimed a personal best jump of 11.76m (38-7), earning her sixth place and the fourth-farthest jump in the school record book.
 
(M) Shot Put: Freshman Tyrus Smith bumped up to No. 5 in the Northwest record book with a provisional throw of 17.48m (57-4). Smith placed fifth in the event. Demarii Williams secured eighth place overall with a throw of 16.15m (53-0).
 
(W) Shot Put: With a throw of 13.07m (42-11), Jordyn Matiyow placed ninth overall and set a personal best. 
 
(W) Javelin Throw: Freshman Kalyn Washburn secured ninth with a Div. II provisional throw of 43.62m (143-1) – giving her the fourth-farthest women's javelin throw in school history.
