No. 29-ranked Bearcats take 7-game win streak to MWSU, No. 9 Rogers State

Riding a seven-game winning streak, the No. 29-ranked Northwest Missouri State University baseball team will take to the road again this week for four contests.
 
The Bearcats (26-9 overall, 16-5 MIAA) will play a single game Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Missouri Western (18-17, 13-11 MIAA). The Griffons have won three games in a row after coming off a weekend sweep at home against the Washburn Ichabods. The Griffons are 14-7 at home this season. Missouri Western picked up a 16-6 victory over Northwest in the first meeting this season March 25 in Maryville, Mo.
 
Northwest will play a three-game MIAA road series Thursday-Saturday at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla. The Hillcats are 30-5 overall and sit in first place in the MIAA standings with a league mark of 18-3. Rogers State is 18-4 at home this season.
 
Northwest's seven-game winning streak is the longest for the Bearcats since then head coach Darin Loe's squad won seven straight contests from April 19-29, 2018. The last time the Bearcats won eight consecutive games came March 28-April 9, 2017. Northwest had an 11-game winning streak April 15-May 2, 2006, which was the longest winning streak during Coach Loe's tenure at Northwest. The longest win streak in program history is 18 games March 17-April 5, 1989, came during head coach Jim Johnson's era at Northwest.
 
Northwest is 6-0 in MIAA series this year. Northwest has won eight consecutive series this season that has included triumphs over Arkansas-Monticello (3-1), CSU Pueblo (3-1), Fort Hays State (2-1), Emporia State (2-1), Missouri Southern (3-0), Washburn (2-1), Pittsburg State (3-0) and Arkansas-Fort Smith (3-0). Northwest and Rogers State are the only two MIAA schools to have won every league series they have competed in this season.
 
Northwest is 9-2 in one-run games. The Bearcats have outscored the opposition 91-44 in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings this season. Northwest is 2-1 in extra-inning contests.
 
The Bearcats climbed into the ABCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll for the first time in program history at No. 29 this week.

He worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the victory … on Sunday, De Santiago tied a season-high with three innings of relief work and gained the win when Northwest walked off a 9-8 triumph in the 11th inning … allowed a run in the ninth with two outs to allowed Pitt State to force extra innings … he worked around a double in the 10th but kept the Gorillas scoreless in the 10th and 11th before the Bearcats walked off another win in the bottom of the 11th to complete a three-game sweep … picked up a win and a save in a doubleheader at UAFS … UAFS staged a comeback in the eighth, scoring four runs, yet Northwest Missouri State preserved its lead at 11-10 … De Santiago closed out the game, securing the victory … De Santiago entered in the eighth with the tying run and third and he recorded a strikeout … UAFS loaded the bases in the ninth with no outs before De Santiago collected three consecutive strikeouts to secure his fourth save of the season.
 
Senior Ben Haug is 3-1 in nine starts … he has a 6.15 ERA and owns a save … he has struck out a team-high 41 batters … tied for No. 9 in the MIAA in strikeouts (41) … pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 batters in a 9-0 win at Arkansas-Fort Smith (April 2) and was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week … Haug scattered four hits and issued one walk vs. the Lions.
 
Sophomore Logan Brasel is 2-1 on the season and has a 5.73 ERA with a 1.57 WHIP … in six MIAA starts, Brasel is 2-0 with a 4.13 ERA in 28 1/3 innings pitched.
 
Sophomore Jase Johnson is 3-0 in his 14 relief appearances … has tossed 23 2/3 innings with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP … has struck out 23 batters, which ranks fourth on the team.
 
Junior Bronco Whitt is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in eight appearances … has struck out 10 batters.
 
Senior Landon Wells is 2-1 with a 4.98 ERA in 21 1/3 innings pitched … has struck out 20 and walked 11.
 
Sophomore Leonardo May is 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP … May has recorded eight strikeouts in 12 innings pitched.
 
Sophomore Gage Busby ranks second on the team with 36 strikeouts … has made eight starts and is 2-2 with a 6.68 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP.
 
Northwest head coach Tony Jandron led the Bearcats to a berth in the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament championship game while securing the most ever wins by a first-year coach in program history.
 
Jandron guided the Bearcats to a 27-25 mark in the 2025 season. Northwest went 19-17 in MIAA play and earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. In 2025, the Bearcats set the program record for home runs (57) in a single season.
 
The Bearcats were selected to finish ninth in the 2026 MIAA preseason coaches poll.
