Bearcats land No. 3 seed for MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced the official seeds and pairings for its 2026 women's tennis postseason championship. The top six teams from the regular season will meet in Springfield, Mo., for the Association's three-day postseason tournament, hosted May 1-3 at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
 
The opening matches of the 2026 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1. The winners of Wednesday's quarterfinal matches will advance to the MIAA semifinals, set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. The battle for the MIAA tournament title is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.  
 
Central Oklahoma and Washburn shared the 2026 MIAA regular season championship crown after both teams ended the season with league records of 8-1. It's the Ichabods' second consecutive shared regular season title and the Bronchos' first piece of a regular season championship since 2022. Central Oklahoma claimed the top seed in the postseason tournament thanks to the Bronchos' 4-3 win over Washburn in the regular season.
 
Both the Bronchos and Ichabods earn an opening round bye as the top two seeds in the 2026 championship and will take on Friday's quarterfinal winners at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. Central Oklahoma is the defending MIAA tournament champion and has won four of the last six women's tennis postseason championships.
 
Northwest Missouri State claimed the No. 3 seed with an MIAA record of 7-2. The Bearcats will take on No. 6 seed Nebraska Kearney (4-5) at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1. Missouri Western tabbed the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Northeastern State (5-4) at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Griffons also ended the regular season with a league record of 7-2. Northwest Missouri earned the higher seed over Missouri Western with a 6-1 win over the Griffons in the regular season finale.

Four MIAA teams currently rank in the ITA's most recent NCAA Division II women's tennis top 50, led by the Ichabods with a national ranking of No. 18. Central Oklahoma ranks No. 36 in Division II, followed by Missouri Western at No. 39 and Northwest Missouri at No. 41.

SEMIFINAL MATCHES – Saturday, May 2
10 AM  No. 1 seed Central Oklahoma vs. Missouri Western/Northeastern State
10 AM  No. 2 seed Washburn vs. Nebraska Kearney/Northwest Missouri State
