Men's tennis draws Ouachita Baptist in opening round of MIAA-GAC Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced the official seeds and pairings for its 2026 MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Championship. The top four teams in the North Division and the top four teams from the South Division will meet in Springfield, Mo., for the Association's three-day postseason tournament, hosted April 29 - May 1 at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
 
The opening matches of the 2026 MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Championship are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. The winners of Wednesday's quarterfinal matches will advance to the MIAA semifinals, set for 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. The battle for the MIAA/GAC men's tennis title is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1.
 
NCAA Division II men's tennis programs from both the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and Great American Conference (GAC) compete in a North/South divisional regular season schedule with in-division conference matches counting towards their tournament seed. 
 
Washburn once again claimed the No. 1 seed in the North Division with a flawless 5-0 in-division regular season record. Nebraska Kearney will represent the North Division as the No. 2 seed after going 3-2 against in-division opponents. Northwest Missouri State finished the regular season with a divisional record of 3-2 and will be the North Division's No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament. The Lopers earned the higher seed of the Bearcats thanks to their 5-2 win over Northwest in the regular season. Augustana will be the final team representing the North Division. The Vikings finished the regular season with a divisional record of 2-3, earning the No. 4 seed over Emporia State (2-3) after defeating the Hornets 4-3 in the regular season finale.
 
Harding earned the top seed in the South Division with a perfect 5-0 in-division record. Ouachita will be the No. 2 out of the South Division with a record of 4-1 against in-division opponents, and Southern Arkansas will be the No. 3 seed with a record of 3-2 in the division. Northeastern State will be the final team to represent the South Division after ending the regular season 2-3 in the division. The 2026 season was Northeastern State University's first NCAA Division II men's tennis season since 2000.
 
The Ichabods are the three-time defending MIAA/GAC tournament champions. Washburn defeated the Ouachita Tigers 4-0 in the 2025 tournament title match for the Ichabods' third consecutive conference championship.
 
Four MIAA/GAC teams currently rank in the ITA's most recent NCAA Division II men's tennis top 50, led by the Ichabods with a national ranking of No. 13. Nebraska Kearney ranks No. 34 in Division II, followed by Harding at No. 41 and Northwest Missouri at No. 49.

2 PM      No. 2 seed Ouachita vs. No. 3 seed Northwest Missouri State
 
SEMIFINAL MATCHES – Thursday, April 30
2 PM      Washburn/Northeastern State vs. Ouachita/Northwest Missouri State
2 PM      Harding/Augustana vs. Nebraska Kearney/Southern Arkansas
