MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State University softball squad surpassed the 30-win mark for the seventh time in program history after a doubleheader sweep of the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Friday at Bearcat Field.
Northwest improved to 31-18 overall and 10-12 in MIAA play. UNK dropped to 14-35 overall and 3-17 in league games. The Bearcats also surpassed their single-season school record for stolen bases. The Bearcats are 86-for-102 in stolen base attempts this season. The previous Northwest single-season record for team stolen bases was 82 set in the 2025 season.
Northwest captured game one, 4-1, and then tossed a 1-0 shutout in game two.
GAME ONE
The Bearcats secured their first win of the day with a consistent offensive effort, highlighted by scoring two runs in both the second and fifth innings.
Sara Farlow opened the scoring with a single to left field, followed by
Curstin Todd being hit by a pitch, advancing Farlow.
Jaeleigh Darnell delivered an RBI single, allowing Farlow to score, and
Kiara Schaub reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Todd for a 2-0 lead.
The Lopers responded in the fourth inning, scoring on an error as Alivia De La Cruz advanced to third and came home on a sacrifice, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, the Bearcats answered back in the fifth inning.
Alexis Brown led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by
Omara Love, while
Timber Wilson doubled to bring Love home, extending the lead to 4-1.
Bearcats pitcher
Jadyn Streigle completed the game, allowing only one unearned run. Streigle delivered a standout performance on the mound, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, issuing three walks, and striking out two batters. She improved her record to 15-7 for the season. Love finished with two hits, driving in one run and stealing two bases, while Wilson contributed an RBI double.
GAME TWO
The Bearcats secured a narrow 1–0 victory, highlighted by strong pitching that held the Lopers to four hits while matching their opponent's six strikeouts.
Alexis Brown initiated the offense with a walk and subsequently stole second.
Karine Morrison advanced Brown to third with a sacrifice, allowing
Omara Love to drive in Brown with a single to left field. Love was later caught stealing to end the inning, with the score standing at 1–0 after the first inning.
The remaining innings featured strong defensive plays and pitching.
Rien Moore delivered an impressive performance on the mound, pitching a complete game and allowing just four hits while striking out six batters. It was her second shutout of the season as she improved to 12-6 overall. It was Moore's 10th complete game of the year.
Moore's control was evident, throwing 122 pitches, 75 of which were strikes, and not allowing any earned runs.
Alexis Brown led the base paths with two stolen bases and added two hits, while
Omara Love contributed with a hit and an RBI.
Up next for Northwest Missouri State is a doubleheader against Missouri Western on Friday, May 1, at 2 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.
