Northwest Missouri State University senior Ben Haug has been named the NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week.

Haug's stellar season continued this past week as he tossed a one-hit shutout of Northeastern State on Saturday and followed it up with a save on Tuesday against Missouri Western.

Haug allowed a one-out third inning double to NSU's Chance Pair for the RiverHawks' only hit of the game. Haug struck out eight NSU hitters for his first shutout of the season and the third of his career.

Haug was summoned to close out Tuesday's home game vs. Missouri Western. Head coach Tony Jandron called on Haug to extinguish a Griffon rally. MoWest had runners on first and second with one out and the Bearcats held a 12-11 lead. Haug got Jordan Austin to fly out and then struck out Miguel Cantu for the final out, earning his second save of the season.

The Marshall, Mo., native is 5-1 in nine starts with a 4.69 ERA and two saves. He has struck out a team-best 56 batters. He is a two-time MIAA Pitcher of the Week honoree. In MIAA play, Haug is 4-1 with a 3.58 ERA.
