The Northwest track and field teams will travel to Iowa this weekend for their final tune-ups before the MIAA Championships, competing in the Kip Janvrin Open on April 23 and 24 and the Viking Classic on April 24.
 
Kip Janvrin Open Meet Information:
Field events on Thursday are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. On Friday, the first field event will start at 10 a.m. along with running events scheduled at 12 p.m.

2025-26 OUTDOOR SEASON CHECK-IN:
Northwest put in elite, national-level performances over the weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and the ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan.
 
In the recent week four USTFCCCA TFRI rankings, the men ranked ninth nationally and fourth in the Central Region, while the women checked in at No. 18 nationally and No. 8 in the Central Region. 
 
The Bearcat men's squad ranks third in the MIAA while the women's squad is fifth in the conference USTFCCCA TFRI rankings.
 
Northwest has collected 31 NCAA Division II provisional marks this season across 10 meets— 19 by the Bearcat men and 12 by the women.
 
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Drew Atkins shattered the Northwest 10,000-meter school record, crossing the line with a top-three Division II finish and the second-fastest Div. II time this season.
 
Kiki Witt delivered a standout performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking the second-fastest time in school history and finishing as the No. 6 Division II competitor at the meet. Witt earned the 12th-fastest Div. II time this season.
 
The Bearcat men's 800-meter crew rewrote the school record books in the 800-meter run, led by a school-record performance from Riley Witt. Witt and Maxime Touron now hold the top two times in Northwest history after finishing third and fifth among Division II athletes in the Invitational section. Witt and Touron also secured the eighth and 10th-fastest Div. II times in the nation so far this season. In the Open section, Christian Lanphier and Charlie Kinslow surged into the No. 3 and No. 4 spots on the Northwest all-time list, with both athletes capturing provisional marks in the process.
 
Sophomore Marie Dea smashed the school record in the 800-meter run while competing against Division I talent. Dea's time earned her fourth place among Division II athletes in the event and the fourth-fastest time in the country so far this season.
 
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Danny Jantzen rewrote the Northwest record books by clocking a school-record and a new provisional time to finish fourth overall. Jantzen's time ranked as the No. 9 time in the nation.
 
Kendall Tietjen headlined the women's hurdles for the Bearcats, taking home a first-place finish among Division II athletes and moving into the No. 2 spot on the Northwest all-time list. Tietjen claimed the 13th-fastest time this season.
 
Aziz Mohammed captured the overall event crown in the 1,500-meter Invite with an elite time of 3:38.68. Mohammed's time broke his own school record time set earlier this season, earned the No. 1 time in NCAA Div. II this season, and the sixth-fastest Division II NCAA finish of all-time. Mohammed also holds the No. 20 and No. 26 all-time 1500-meter fastest finishes. Mohammed claimed his third MIAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor this season based on his performance over the weekend. 
 
Maxime Touron put up the second-best time in school history in the men's 1,500-meter Invite, capturing fourth among Div. II competitors and securing the 12th-fastest time in the nation.
 
At the ESU Relays, Northwest secured a pair of individual event titles, led by Kennedi Cline in the women's 400-meter dash and Josh Fraker in the men's 800-meter run. Cline highlighted the action by bettering her own mark in the school record books and moving into the No. 12 Div. II spot this season.
 
The women's 4x100-meter relay team continued its dominant stretch, claiming the event crown while beating its own top-10 program mark and improving its season-best provisional time. The team currently has the No. 10 time in the country so far this season. 
 
Truman Hare captured a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line with the second-fastest time in Northwest history and the eighth-fastest NCAA Div. II time this year.
 
In the field, Tyrus Smith secured a pair of Division II provisional marks in the men's shot put and discus. Smith's performance in the shot put also etched his name into the Northwest record books.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding cross country/track & field programs in each of the NCAA's three divisions, the NAIA and the NJCAA for each gender in those levels. The award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at their respective national championships.
 
Based on the team's finish at each championship (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
 
Northwest's men's squad currently ranks sixth among Division II programs with 19 points. The Bearcats earned 11 points from an 11th-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships and added eight points following an eighth-place finish at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships.
