Roland takes home 400m title; Bearcats claim 13 provisional marks at Arkansas meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Northwest Missouri State University outdoor track and field teams secured 13 provisional marks, an event title, and made numerous updates to the school record books at the Arkansas Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas. 
 
Facing off against Division I talent, Melanie Roland secured the event title in the women's 400-meter run while also claiming the new No. 2 spot in the school record books.
 
David Parker II also etched his name at No. 2 in the Northwest record books, claiming second place in the men's triple jump
 
Jaurdin Mallory showcased her impressive skills by capturing two provisional marks in the women's 100 and 200-meter dashes, earning new times in the school record books, and placing first and third among Division II athletes respectively. 
 
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Danny Jantzen crossed the line as the top Division II finisher, securing a provisional mark and the third-fastest time in school history.
 
Northwest also showcased its depth in the relay events, as the women's 4x100-meter team and the men's 4x400-meter squad both secured top Division II finishes, recorded NCAA provisional marks, and etched their names into the Northwest's all-time top five.
 
Running Events
(M) 100-meter Dash: Freshman Kyle Emerson placed 12th overall with a new personal record time of 10.52 giving him the sixth-fastest time in school history. Emerson place sixth among DII athletes in the race. 
 
(W) 100-meter Dash: Junior Jaurdin Mallory claimed a Div. II provisional time of 11.60, earning her ninth place overall and first among DII athletes. Mallory also beat her own third-fastest time in Northwest history. Finding similar success, Krysta Abel secured 14th place along with second among DII athletes with a provisional time of 11.68. Abel's time tied her for the fifth-fastest time in the school record books. Abel and Mallory both earned new personal best times.
 
(M) 200-meter Dash: Kyle Emerson continued his success in the 200-meter, crossing the finish line with a time of 21.13, earning him 12th overall once again and third place amongst Div. II competitors. Emerson made it into the school record books once again, tying for the fifth-fastest time in the men's 200-meter.  
 
(W) 200-meter Dash: Junior Jaurdin Mallory placed 10th overall with a provisional time of 24.07 – earning the new fifth-fastest time in school history. Mallory earned a new personal best in the event and placed third out of DII competitors.
 
(M) 400-meter Dash: Senior Logan Arellano secured a Division II provisional time of 47.55 and earned 12th place in the event and third with DII runners. 
 
(W) 400-meter Dash: Senior Melanie Roland captured the event crown with a Div. II provisional time of 52.92 and jumping up in the school record books to No. 2 for fastest 400-meter time. Kennedi Cline had similar success, placing fourth overall and second among Div. II athletes in the event, claiming a provisional time of 54.37. 
 
(M) 800-meter Run: Freshman Josh Fraker secured fourth for the 'Cats with a time of 1:52.49. Fraker placed first out of DII competitors 
 
Unattached senior Bret Beard placed seventh overall in the event with a time of 1:53.16.  
 
(M) 800-meter Invite: Christian Lanphier crossed the finish line with a time of 1:52.91, earning ninth in the event and second amongst DII.
 
(W) 800-meter Invite: Marie Dea and Jadyn Barnes claimed fourth and fifth overall respectively with provisional times of 2:10.08 and 2:10.16. Dea and Barnes placed first and second within Division II.
 
(M) 110-meter Hurdles: Sophomore Frank Sparks secured a provisional mark of 14.31 which earned him sixth overall and first within Division II.
 
(M) 400-meter Hurdles: Danny Jantzen placed fourth in the event with a Division II provisional time of 52.35 – giving him the third-fastest time in school history. Jantzen also earned a new personal best. Aiden O'Leary earned a time of 54.30 and placed 12th overall. Jantzen and O'Leary placed first and second for DII athletes respectively. 
 
(W) 400-meter Hurdles: Senior Kendall Tietjen crossed the finish line with a time of 1:02.15, placing ninth, along with breaking her into the school record books at No. 9 for the fastest 400-meter hurdles. Tietjen also claimed second amongst Div. II competitors.  
 
(W) 1500-meter Invite: Junior Mayson Hartley crossed the finish line with a time of 4:40.25, securing ninth overall and third for Division II.
 
Track and field graduate assistant Alyna Thibault earned a time of 4:33.27 and claimed fourth in the event.
 
(M) 4x100-meter Relay: Northwest's men's 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Frank Sparks, Cash Emgarten, Quinn Gruver, and Kyle Emerson placed seventh overall and third within DII with a time of 42.15.
 
(W) 4x100-meter Relay: Krysta Abel, Kennedi Cline, Jaurdin Mallory, and Hallie Henfling participated in the women's 4x100-meter relay sweep and captured a Division II provisional mark of 45.44, earning them fourth overall, first among Division II schools, and created the new third fastest time in school history.
 
(M) 4x400-meter Relay: Northwest's men's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Danny Jantzen, Logan Arellano, Christian Lanphier, and Truman Hare placed fourth overall and first within DII with a Division II provisional time of 3:09.19. The team earned the new fifth-fastest time in school history. 
 
Field Events
(M) Triple Jump: Sophomore David Parker II captured second place overall with a Division II provisional mark of 14.97m (49-1.5) – giving him a new personal best and the second-farthest triple jump in school history. Jonathan Hedrick had a leap of 13.36m (43-10) which earned him eighth place. Parker II and Hedrick placed first and third among DII athletes. 
 
(W) Triple Jump: Freshman Abigail Troncin recorded a leap of 11.48m (37-8) which earned her fifth place and gave her the new ninth-farthest triple jump in school history. Troncin was the only Div. II athlete who competed in the event. 
 
Up Next:
Northwest track and field will split their squads once again to take on the three-day Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. from April 16 to April 18 and the two-day ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan. on April 17 and 18.
