Bearcats begin week-long homestand against Missouri Western, Pittsburg State

The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team will play four home MIAA contests this week beginning Wednesday against Missouri Western.
 
Northwest (19-8 overall, 9-4 MIAA) will then play host to Pittsburg State in a three-game series starting Friday at 3 p.m. at the Bearcat Baseball Field.
 
Missouri Western is 11-16 overall and 6-10 in MIAA play. The Griffons are 3-9 on the road this season. The Griffons have won two MIAA series this year against Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State. Missouri Western owns an 80-69 lead in the all-time series with Northwest.
 
Pittsburg State, ranked No. 1 in the writer's poll and No. 2 in the coaches' poll, is 25-3 overall and 14-3 in conference games. The Gorillas are 8-1 on the road this season. The Gorillas hold a 48-46 lead in the all-time series against the Bearcats. Pitt State has won seven in a row over the Bearcats.
 
Northwest sits in fourth place in the MIAA standings – trailing Rogers State (12-1), Pittsburg State (14-3) and Central Missouri (14-3).
 
The Bearcats are off to a 19-8 start – the best start in program history since Northwest began the 2003 season at 20-6 overall.
 
Northwest has won six consecutive series, including all four of its MIAA series this season. Northwest has recorded series victories over Arkansas-Monticello (3-1), CSU Pueblo (3-1), Fort Hays State (2-1), Emporia State (2-1), Missouri Southern (3-0) and Washburn (2-1).
 
Northwest is 6-2 in one-run games. The Bearcats have outscored the opposition 23-13 in the eighth and ninth innings this season. Over the final three innings of games, Northwest has tallied 47 runs and allowed only 18.
 
Northwest ranks No. 4 in the nation in batters hit by pitches (68).

Senior transfer Jeremiah Cabuyaban was chosen as the MIAA's Hitter of the Week after he torched Central Missouri and Washburn pitching … he hit .500 with four home runs, 12 RBI and four runs scored against the Mules and Ichabods … he has hit a home run in five straight games and has recorded seven home runs in his last seven games played … he leads the team in batting (.417), OPS (1.490), home runs (11), RBI (32), slugging percentage (.929) and on-base percentage (.561) … he has reached base in all 23 games he has played … he has 11 multi-hit games … posted seven multi-RBI contests … Produced a season-high 10 total bases and 2 extra-base hits, going 4-for-5 with 2 homers and 4 RBIs at CSU Pueblo (Feb. 16)… Drew a season-high 3 walks with 1 run scored vs. Fort Hays State (Feb. 19)… Drove in a season-high 6 runs, adding a home run and a double at Washburn (March 22).

Sophomore Diego De Santiago is 2-2 with three saves and a 5.52 ERA in 11 appearances … he has a 1.84 WHIP … he has struck out eight batters.
 
Junior Bronco Whitt is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in five appearances … he has thrown 7 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and one run … he has struck out seven batters.
 
Senior Landon Wells is 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 18 innings pitched … has struck out 20 and walked nine.
 
Sophomore Leonardo May is 3-1 in his four starts with 2.35 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.
 
Senior Ben Haug is 2-1 in six starts … he has an 8.00 ERA and owns a save … he has struck out 24 batters.
 
Sophomore Gage Busby is the team leader with 35 strikeouts … has made seven starts and is 2-2 with a 7.04 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP.
 
Northwest head coach Tony Jandron led the Bearcats to a berth in the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament championship game while securing the most ever wins by a first-year coach in program history.
 
Jandron guided the Bearcats to a 27-25 mark in the 2025 season. Northwest went 19-17 in MIAA play and earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. In 2025, the Bearcats set the program record for home runs (57) in a single season.
 
The Bearcats were selected to finish ninth in the 2026 MIAA preseason coaches poll.
